The movie "Cobra Rush" premiered in Japan on July 27, 2009. Stephen Sommers directed an action film based on the comic book series based on the Soldier Joe: A Real American Hero toy series. The film's tagline is "When others give up, they go all the way."

Begin work on the film

The film began filming in February 2008 on the set of Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles.

For almost a month, the film crew worked on shooting the film "Cobra Throw-1". The actors visited the Old Town in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The other half of the group filmed in Tokyo, Paris, Egypt, including underwater.

Choice of the director of the picture

In order to portray on the screen a story that combines vivid action and diverse mythology, they turned to director Steve Sommers, who was able to embody the canons of both genres. His stunning portrayal of the many elements in the blockbusters The Mummy and The Mummy Returns (interesting action scenes, varied adventures, lots of humorous scenes, colorful imagery, and romance of life-and-death adventures) helped make these two films box office champions.

Release of toy soldiers from category G. I. JOE started in 1964. The toy series has proven popular since the US Vietnam War. Until now, the popularity of this series of toys has remained unchanged. Only now these soldiers have turned into a detachment that united fighters from different countries, each of which had its own qualifications and its own type of weapon.

Main characters

To create the film "Cobra Rush", the actors were selected for such characters as:

• Ripcord is an excellent sniper and expert in weapons.
• Snake Eyes - in addition to being a ninja, he was armed with a Glock pistol and, of course, a katana.
• Scarlett is a martial arts beauty.
• Breaker is a computer genius and an experienced codebreaker.
• Heavy Duty is an experienced weapons expert.
• General Hawk– squad leader.
• Kreiger is the general's assistant and scout.
• Duke - battle-hardened, squad leader.

The plot of the film is fantastic, but director Steven Sommers believes that all the technologies shown in the movie "Cobra Rush" were fully mastered by the actors and characters. And he believes that they will be implemented in 10-20 years. He is 100% sure of this. The director could gain such confidence by studying books and magazines on weapon development.

The director shot the film, resulting in a very intense action movie. To create the film "Cobra Throw" the actors were selected as an international team of recognized masters and rising stars. Sommers tried to embody the patriotic American myth on the screen by transferring the action to the near future.

Working on the script

Across the mountains of Central Asia to the deserts of Egypt, along the cheerful streets of Paris, an elite special squad called G. I. is moving to the icy North Pole. JOE. The soldiers are equipped with the latest weapons and advanced intelligence equipment. The task before the squad is not an easy one: to stop the arms dealer Destro and the mysterious organization "Cobra" from disturbing the peace of the world.

To attract the viewer, it was necessary not just to transfer toys to the screen and replace them with people. Di Bonaventura brought in screenwriter Michael B. Gordon to work on the script, who co-wrote the main story with Stephen Sommers. Later, David Eliot and Paul Lovit joined them, and then Stuart Beatty. And for the film "Cobra Throw" actors and roleswere selected based on this joint scenario.

The writers took as a basis the basic plot that fans of the game fell in love with: G. I. JOE is assigned to transport samples of a new secret weapon and they must not fall into the hands of the bad guys.

Sommers and Di Bonaventura did not retreat from comics. A multinational team has been put together for the film, and although the actors speak different languages, there is a real camaraderie between them and it is felt by the audience.

For many years, the creators of the G. I. JOE inspired the fans that this is the most courageous and most reliable American soldier. In the film, Duke embodies this image. He is devoted to his friends and is ready to sacrifice his life for their sake and for his country. He is the basis of the team, and the viewer sees what is happening in the film through his eyes.

In order to play such a "classic American", the creators of the film "Cobra Throw" did not choose actors for a long time. This role was offered to such a famous moviegoer actor as Channing Tatum. The choice was influenced by his attractive appearance and good physical shape. This allowed him to create the image of a soldier from G. I. JOE.

The actor himself, who in his youth was fond of G. I. JOE says it's "the role of his life". And during filming, he does his own stunts.

Accompanying Duke is his SWAT friend, the sharp-tongued Ripcord. This is one of the main characters, he plays a big role in the final part of the picture - the clash of G. I. JOE and Cobras. To create such a couple on screen in the film "Cobra Rush", the actors and characters must look like one.

The image of Ripcord was created by Marlon Waynes. This is an actor who can both make you laugh and be authentic. As Di Bonaventura points out, Marlon is naturally funny and a good actor.

Equally eager, the fans of G. I. JOE was waiting for Snake Isa to appear on the screen. The image of the mysterious ninja is the iconic character of this game.

The same cult actor, expert in martial arts as Ray Park was chosen for this role. When they had just announced the creation of a film based on G. I. JOE, Park himself was already on fire with the idea of taking part in creating this image in the film. To do this, he even bought a Snake Wise costume and attended screen tests in it. When the producers saw him in this image, all other candidacies of the actors immediately disappeared!

Ray Park made every effort to make the image of the silent Snake as alive as possible. Playing the part of a character who doesn't speak was a real challenge for Park as an actor.

Counterintelligence duties in G. I. JOE performs Scarlett, she is strong, agile, well versed in weapons and shoots well. Scarlett is an intellectual, she was able to graduate from college at the age of 12. In addition to all these qualities, she is insanely pretty.

The search for an actress led the producers to Rachel Nichols. Since these types of film projects are usually kept secret, Nichols would read lines frommovie Van Helsing. And it so happened that at the qualifying stage, the actress was not able to read the script.

French actor Said Tagmaoui was chosen for the role of Breaker, a communication expert. He had never done an action movie before. And so he took the process of preparing for this role with all seriousness.

Heavy Duty, a powerful and imposing expert in heavy weapons, was played by British actor, Nigerian by birth, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The actor himself was attracted by the scale of the action - underwater fights, the battle underground, in the desert, the battle on the streets of Paris. In addition, he had at his disposal all types of small arms, from the lightest to transported on special equipment.

Selection of an actor for the role of commander

The head of the detachment is a military man with the rank of general, Hawk. Like all generals, he is a tough commander, not prone to sentimentality and demanding unquestioning obedience. His motto is "Defeat the bad guys and save the squad!"

The film producer, when he saw the film "Express: The Story of a Legend …", selected actor Denis Quaid for the role of the squad leader. The role of Quaid - football coach impressed him so much that he decided to give the role of general only to him.

English performer Jonathan Pryce was selected for the role of US President.

As in absolutely all mythologies of this kind, any of the antagonists has their own chronicle behind them, able to capture the old and interestnew fans as the story flywheel unfolds.

They also have their own story, attracting old and new fans, shown throughout the film. And the actors of the film "Throw of the Cobra" tried to create such negative images.

The role of the cunning and treacherous McCullen, head of the syndicate for research in the field of army equipment, was played by an actor from Albion, Christopher Eccleston.

Blonde Sienna Miller played in the film the most beautiful member of the "Cobra" - the Baroness.

On the side of the anti-heroes, there is also a ninja master - Storm Shadow. He is great with two swords. Storm and Snack Eyes studied martial arts together under the same master, but a childhood rivalry has driven them on opposite sides of Good and Evil. Korean cinema star Byung Hong Lee was chosen for this role.

However, not only members of the G. I. JOE all as one bright personality: in the movie "Cobra Rush" the villain actors are no less attractive.

There is another main villain in the picture - the famous scientist Doctor, who helps the insidious plans of McCullen.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was selected for this role. The actor had to spend four hours every morning in the make-up chair so that they could create the disfigured face of the Doctor.

Working on the film

The filming schedule was extremely limited. Although such films usually have a pre-production period of up to 30 weeks, the writers and actors of the film "The Castcobras" shot within 12 weeks. And so the producers began filming immediately after the end of the writers' strike in February 2008

Props and costumes also had to be done in a very short time. Using a computer, each actor was measured and unique costumes were made.

Impressive "Stakhanov's method" when shooting a picture. It was completed two days ahead of schedule.

More sets were built during filming than for regular films. For genre paintings, 12-14 sets of scenery are usually built. A total of 168 were built here.

Secret technologies

As Goldner himself acknowledges, the technologies depicted in the film are "things we know the military is developing, only we haven't seen them in action."

The film is based on nanotechnology used in a secret weapon that G. I. JOE, and "villains".

When the military looked at the sketches of some of the military suits, they admitted that they are working on the creation of special equipment that will help soldiers run faster and protect them from direct hits.

Design ideas were promoted by the same team that created the costumes for the Iron Man movie.

G. I. Joe: "Cobra Throw-2"

In 2013, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura released a sequel to the film. It receives the rolling name "G. I. Joe: Cobra Throw-2" (G. I. Joe: Retaliation).

To participate infilming of the film "Cobra Throw-2" the actors were invited both those who worked during the creation of the first part, and new ones.

In it, a secret unit continues to fight against the most dangerous criminal gangs in the world. After a successful operation on the fighters of the G. I. Joe was attacked in which some members of the elite unit are killed. Those who survived begin their own investigation of this tragedy. The traces lead to the White House, in which, under the guise of the President of the United States, the commander of the Cobra group is hiding, who gave the order to eliminate G. I. Joe.

Based on the plot of the film "Cobra Rush-2", the actors in the film have been updated.

Paramount Pictures has chosen Aaron Berg as the final screenwriter for Cobra 3.

It is still difficult to say what thoughts and ideas the new band will bring to the continuation of the film. The main thing is that a cool movie comes out!
