History of the theater
The Volkov Theater (Yaroslavl) began its career in the 18th century. It is named after its founder. The theater was opened by the merchant's son Fyodor Grigoryevich Volkov. He assembled the first troupe, which included people of different professions who had nothing to do with art.
The first performances were held in a leather barn. Soon Fedor built a special room for his theater. F. Volkov invested in art not only his soul, but also large material resources. With his money, scenery was made and costumes were sewn. Soon the amateur troupe was invited to the capital, where they stayed to live and work.
With the departure of Fyodor Grigoryevich and his troupe from Yaroslavl, the cultural life in the city did not stop. In 1777, the governor of the region A. P. Melgunov took up the development of art here. He strongly encouraged the development of art in the city.
At the end of the 19th century, the Russian Academic Drama Theaterthem. F. Volkov became famous throughout Russia and was recognized as one of the best in the country. Many great artists debuted on its stage. Among them is Leonid Sobinov. This world-famous operatic tenor began his career as a simple extra and grew up to be a soloist at the Imperial Theatres. The Yaroslavl stage brought up a large number of talents, which subsequently graced the leading Moscow and St. Petersburg stages.
The year 1911 was significant for the theatre. Firstly, a new building with an auditorium for a thousand seats was built for it. Secondly, he was named after Fyodor Volkov.
In 20-30s. the repertoire consisted of Russian classics. A special place in it was occupied by the works of A. N. Ostrovsky.
Yaroslavl Drama became the first provincial theater where A. Tolstoy's work "Peter I" was staged. The premiere was attended by the author himself, who was highly appreciated by the work of the actors who played the main roles.
During the Second World War, many actors went to the front. At that harsh time, the repertoire included works that corresponded to the time. It was military dramaturgy.
In the 50s, the troupe was replenished with young cadres - graduates of the capital's universities.
From 1996 to the present, the main director of the theater is Vladimir Bogolepov.
Building
This article presents a photo where you can see what the F. G. Volkov Theater looks like today.
The building in which it is located was built in 1911. Interiors and facadeswere designed by the architect Nikolai Spirin, who won the competition, the jury of which was a commission from Moscow, headed by F. Shekhtel.
N. Spirin created a building unprecedented in its scale for the province. It was built over two years. Even V. Nemirovich-Danchenko himself was present at the grand opening of the new building.
The first room in which the theater lived at the end of the 19th century was built according to the project of the architect Pankov, in the same place where the new one is now located. But at the beginning of the 20th century, it became necessary to build a new building for rehearsals and performances, as the old one was very dilapidated.
In 2012-2015, the premises underwent a large-scale reconstruction. Scene mechanics have been improved. The theater was equipped with the latest technology. The stage board has been covered with special wood and is very durable.
Also, during the renovation, the facade was restored. The foundation was protected from water, as an underground river flows under the building.
The lighting and sound equipment on both stages has been updated.
The interior of the foyer on the first floor of the building has undergone a radical change. Now it is decorated with stucco. Lamps and beautiful doors were installed. The foyer on the second floor has also undergone changes. Its ceiling was painted. New parquet on the floor.
During the reconstruction, the building was brought exactly to the form that was conceived by its architect N. Spirin. But, due to the fact that the First World War began, he could not realize all his plans.
During the overhaulrenovation was completely transformed buffet. Sound equipment was installed in it and now it is a full-fledged stage.
