Maria Fredrickson is a very strong and strong-willed woman, because talent and perseverance helped a girl from a poor family become a world celebrity and give the world many beautiful songs. This is not only the soloist of the Rokset group, whose photo you will find in this article, but also a self-sufficient singer, musician and artist all rolled into one. However, at some point she stopped working in a famous pop-rock band, but what was the reason, because everything was going so well? Here we will talk about life, creativity, and the reasons for her departure from the big stage.
Biography
The soloist of the Rokset group, as well as keyboardist and songwriter Marie Fredrikson, was born in the Swedish city of Esshe in a large family. Of five children, she was the youngest, and in a poor family this place is not the best. Shortly after the birth of their youngest daughter, the Fredricksons moved to Ljungby to find a more worthywork. Marie's parents worked tirelessly, so there was no one to look after the younger children and they grew by themselves, like grass in a field. The future soloist of the Rokset group even then, out of boredom, often twirled in front of the mirror, imagining that she was a famous artist. Soon, Marie began to organize entire performances, with the participation of her older sisters and friends living in the neighborhood. Mom was very proud of her daughter's talent, so she often asked her to perform something in front of the guests, who were delighted with her singing and manner, reminiscent of Olivia Newton-John.
Youth
As a teenager, Marie was exposed to the Beatles, Deep Purple and Johnny Mitchell, and this influenced her entire life. After graduating from school, the girl went to study at a music college, where she also learned theatrical skills. But acting laurels did not particularly appeal to Marie, so having moved to Halmstad, she, together with a friend named Stefan, created her first rock band called Strul, which played in city clubs, and managed to record a single single. The team did not last long and after its collapse, the girl, together with Martin Sternhuvsvud, began performing under the name MaMas Barn. They released the whole album Barn Som Barn, thanks to which Fredrikson was noticed by Per Gessle. He saw her talent and even offered to record in his own acoustic studio for free, and also introduced her to Lasse Lindbom. A photo of the Roxet soloist in her youth is shown below.
Career start
The producer was indelighted with Marie's voice and immediately offered her a contract, only her parents were against it, so the girl had to go against their will. The mother was afraid that becoming a rock star, the girl would "end badly", but the two sisters were on her side, and Fredrickson made the right decision. Soon, the future Roxet soloist (after much persuasion from Per) recorded a solo album called Het Vind, produced by Lasse. The title track Ännu doftar kärlek began to play frequently in the abyss of radio waves, but in general the vinyl received very mixed reviews. Most of all, the singer was offended by a note in a yellow newspaper, in which such a caustic question sounded: “Mary, is this all you are capable of?”. In frustrated feelings, she went on tour with the Lindbom team, as she was afraid of new negative reviews about her own work.
First successes
Soon there was a group Spännande Ostar, which consisted of Marie Fredrickson, Lasse Lindbom, Mate MP Person and of course Per Gessle. In this composition, they conquered local rock clubs for some time, after which the producer and vocalist went to the Canary Islands to write new compositions for her solo album. Vinyl Den Sjunde Vågen saw the light in 86 and was liked by critics. After that, Marie went on her own tour in support of the new album.
For a long time, Per and the future soloist of "Rockset" discussed options for possible cooperation, and meanwhile the girl repeatedly helped with backing vocals in many of the musician's projects. Fredrickson's career was just beginning, while Gessle, on the contrary, became less popular. However, a certain plan was ripening in Per's head, which consisted in creating an English-speaking duet that could finally reach the world level. For the Swedes, this was a very risky undertaking, since all the other musicians sang for the most part in their native language. However, Fredrickson and Gessle did not fail and achieved what they were striving for.
Roxette
Per often mentions that the main role in the work of their team was played by the legendary Beatles, whose music is truly immortal. The group was officially founded in 1986, and the original name was Gyllene Tider. The leader of the Swedish duo Per Håkan Gessle is not only a gifted musician, singer and composer, but also a successful producer whose projects have always been in demand among a large audience. He always liked to mix different genres into a kind of cocktail, which actually attracted attention to his work.
The history of the group began like this: once one of the labels offered Gessla cooperation on favorable terms - to write a song for Pernilla Wahlgren, but the trial version called Svarta Glas left her indifferent. Then Per offered the composition to the future soloist of "Rocket" - Marie Fredrickson. However, the rock singer was somewhat confused and said that if the sound was slightly changed, she would probably agree to perform it. Gessle translated the text into English, and soon it sounded like Neverending Love and became Roxette's first hit.
Combination
Projectturned out to be more than successful, but Fredrickson did not forget about her solo career and soon after the Roxet tour, under the name Rock Runt Riket, she began recording her new album. Lasse continued to help his ward in everything, and in 87 the Efter Stormen vinyl was released, which was even more successful than the previous two.
In '89 Roxette released their second album, Look Sharp, which sat comfortably at the top of the Swedish charts. And then a surprise awaited the group - the song The Look hit the US hit parade, which allowed Marie and Peru to wake up one morning as world stars. After that, the vinyls began to scatter around the world in millions of copies, and the participants received many awards and visited almost all corners of the globe on tour. Then the Rokset group released many successful albums, each of which was supported by tours. By the way, the famous song from the film "Pretty Woman" - It Must Have Been Love belongs to Per Gessle and still remains relevant. Marie Fredrickson, meanwhile, managed to arrange a personal life and successfully continued to engage in a solo project.
Private life
Once, during one of the tours in Australia, the singer met one nice guy - Michael Biosh, who was a friend of the musicians from Roxette. A chance meeting turned out to be the love of a lifetime, and a few days later the couple announced their engagement.
A year later, Marie was noticed in an "interesting position", but she performed several times in her native Sweden, both as part of a solo project and with the Rokset group. 29 April 93 Marie andMichael became the happy parents of baby Iness-Yusefin. And three years later they had a son named Oscar-Michael. During this time, two solo albums were written, and one of them was in Spanish.
In 2000, Marie released a collection of her golden hits "Äntligen - Marie Fredrikssons bästa 1984-2000", followed by a national tour. The Stockholm concert was recorded on DVD and was in the same box as CD Äntligen - Sommarturné. Circulation exceeded 350,000 copies.
Tipping point
In 1998, a sad event happened in the life of the famous soloist of "Rockset" - after a long illness, her mother died. She suffered from Parkinson's disease and her daughter called her almost every day.
Recovering from a huge loss, in 2002 the singer released a gift box set Kärlekens Guld, containing re-recordings of the old five albums, supplemented with new songs.
What happened to the soloist of the Roxet group?
Maria Fredrickson used to start her morning with a jog, and so, on September 11, 2002, after returning home and standing under a refreshing shower, she suddenly lost consciousness, and falling, hit her head hard on the sink. Already in the clinic, the singer was diagnosed with brain cancer (which the singer herself found out a little earlier, but carefully concealed). Soon, a complex operation was performed to remove the tumor, which was successfully completed.
A recovery period took several long years, and the doctors even suggested that Fredrickson might simply not survive. The brain was damaged, so Marie was forbidden to strain itreading and calculations, and motor activity was disturbed on the right side of the body, and the eye completely lost its visual function.
Due to illness, Marie was unable to collaborate with Roxet and the songs included in The Pop Hits vinyl were performed by Per himself, and Fredrickson only managed to perform the backing vocals for the composition Opportunity Nox, which was real for her condition feat. After undergoing surgery, Marie came out only in January 2003, when the Swedish king Carl XVI Gustaf (an admirer of Roxet's creativity) awarded her and Per with the Royal Medal with a Blue Ribbon.
Marie Fredrickson doesn't give up and continues to occasionally record songs in her own studio, but lately she's been getting into painting as it's probably the only thing she likes to do along with singing.
As you can see in the photo, the Roxet soloist is trying her best to remain cheerful and cheerful. In general, Fredrickson is a strong fighter and continues to live a full life. This can serve as a good example for each of us.
Our days
2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Roxette, and the band was scheduled to give an autumn anniversary tour to celebrate. However, Marie will not be able to take part in it, as her he alth has deteriorated in recent years. Therefore, Per Gessle will visit Moscow without her. The concert is scheduled for November 1 at Crocus City Hall, during which old hits will be performed in a slightly different arrangement. Per considered it unacceptable to look for a new soloist for Roxet, as he respectsMarie, and he promises to perform some songs on his own. However, Fredrickson's heart will be there, and everyone will be able to empathize with her energy and love.
