These were the thoughts not only of the hero, so did Tvardovsky.

Vasily Terkin: a short trip around the homeland

One of the fighters lost his pouch. Vasily recalls how he was left without a hat during the wound, and the nurse offered him hers. Terkin kept the headdress until now, so he gave the fighter his pouch,explaining his act by the fact that everything can be lost in a war, except for the homeland. Spring has come, but then the buzzing of the cockchafer is drowned out by the sound of a bomber. All the soldiers crouched on the ground, and only Vasily rises to his full height and fires from a rifle, shooting down an enemy plane, for which he receives an order.
