If in the first century BC glass painting was the lot of only professionals, today it has become a hobby for many creative people. Anyone who is familiar with this technique can decorate a wide variety of glass surfaces. Painting on glass will decorate dishes, you can create real paintings with acrylic paints on glass, turn an ordinary door into a fabulous entrance to a magical fantasy world.
Required materials and tools
To create beautiful glass paintings, the master will need synthetic brushes, cotton swabs, toothpicks, embossed stamps, pattern templates, glass outlines, a palette, acrylic water-based paints or paints based on alkyd resins, acrylic varnish, thinner, alcohol to wipe the surface before starting work. Of course, you should decide on what the masterpiece will be performed on, and come up with the plot of the image itself. Stamps and templates are necessary for those who do not rely on their abilities, because not everyone is inherent in being a talented artist. Therefore, it is enough for a novice draftsman to process a drawing selected somewhereuntil a contour template is obtained, in which the outline of the depicted object is stored. Now you should carefully wipe the surface with alcohol - degrease. And you can start painting on glass.
Work sequence
Those who have artistic abilities can do without stamps and templates, making a sketch with a marker, so to speak, "from the head." The rest apply a template to the glass and carefully trace it either with a marker or with a contour. By the way, the contours are special paints in tubes, but thicker than those intended for coloring. If painting on glass with acrylic is done using a contour, the drawing turns out to be more like a stained-glass window, a little “cartoonish”, as if clearly outlined. Without a contour, an image similar to painting is obtained, more realistic. Apply the contour carefully, in an even continuous layer. If something suddenly went wrong, you need to immediately fix it using a toothpick, cotton swabs, solvent or water. It is necessary to paint only after the contour has completely dried, that is, after 10-15 minutes.
Glass art painting
Even ordinary clear glasses can be turned into beautiful works of art. For painting them, you should take cone-shaped brushes. To apply small details, you will need a very thin brush. Glass painting without a contour is done in much the same way as artists who paint on canvas do it. That is, dipping the pilebrush into the paint, the draftsman lightly touches the glass with it, trying to evenly distribute the color over the surface. Strokes should be done quickly while the paint is still wet. Sometimes the master may need a hard-bristled brush or toothpicks to give relief to the image. After the pattern has dried, you can cover it with a transparent acrylic varnish. So the drawing will retain brightness and freshness longer.
