“Everything flows, everything changes,” ancient wisdom tells us. The old goes away, the new appears in its place. All this is true regarding the fate of two old regional Moscow theaters - the Drama Theater. Ostrovsky and Kamerny, who, having merged “in creative ecstasy” (although not voluntarily, but by the highest order of the governor of the Moscow Region), formed the Moscow Provincial Theater in 2013 under the strict guidance of Sergei Bezrukov.
Dislocation location
The new sanctuary of Thalia and Melpomene is located in the building of the Moscow Regional House of Arts, in Kuzminki (Volgogradskaya St., 121). It is very convenient to get there: the Kuzminki metro station is five minutes at a leisurely pace, and those who wish to walk can go to the Volzhskaya metro station - it will take about half an hour.
The newly formed theater has two stages at its disposal: a large one and a small one. At the latter, the performances of the former Chamber Theater are mainly staged. He kept his own website, though not very convenient: in places it is impossible to understand how fresh the information posted on it.
Immediately new Moscow ProvincialThe theater of Sergei Bezrukov is praised by visitors, and for good reason. Outside, the building fits perfectly into the urban landscape, inside - light and spacious. Wide staircases, large windows - the designers deserve the highest marks.
A large and bright temple of art
Convenience for the audience was put at the forefront: almost all reviews note the comfort of the auditorium. The chairs are at a sufficient distance from each other (“the knees do not rest against the back in front of the seated one”), each next row rises above the previous one enough so that the tall growth of the neighbor does not become an obstacle to watching the performance (at the same time, it cannot be said that the rise is too cool).
The seats are quite soft and the backs are comfortable. This is important, because some performances last quite a long time, and it is better to spend more than three hours in a comfortable chair than vice versa. A number of spectators are grateful to the administration for such a gift - especially people prone to back pain.
Care for comfort
Good-natured spectators who visited the Provincial Theater are pleased with the balconies in the auditorium: semi-circular, arranged in “steps” along the perimeter, they give the room a cozy look. The only pity is that the sound on them leaves much to be desired (at least the reviews of 2013 are full of sad remarks).
Of the simple human joys, the presence of two women's toilets is noted (the second one opens when there is a large influx of visitors). Such an innovation canonly ladies can appreciate it: long queues to the cherished institution can ruin an arbitrarily wonderful “cult trip”.
In general, as far as the needs of the human body are concerned, the Moscow Provincial Theatre, which received rather enthusiastic reviews, received the most excellent recommendations. There were complaints only about the prices in the buffet, where a cup of coffee costs 250 rubles, and about too small parking (with reservations, however, that “this is Moscow…”). On very hot days, the foyer is stuffy - but the auditorium has a great mode.
Theater management was successful
Care for the comfort of the audience was noted not only by direct "consumers". The press was very impressed with the innovation that the Provincial Theater of Sergei Bezrukov introduced back in 2013: a special translation for blind theatergoers. Now the innovation is available only at one performance - "Pushkin", but in the future it is planned to "expand and deepen".
I must say that Sergei Bezrukov copes with the leadership perfectly. The new Provincial Theater under his leadership is becoming increasingly popular - and the merit of management in this process can be traced considerable.
Dealing with due attention to the purely physiological needs of its visitors, the Provincial Theater does not forget about spiritual food - it is wonderful that in this area, the assessment of all those who bothered to leave feedback on their impressions can be described as enthusiastic.
Spiritual food
The acting is described as "great", the music as "wonderful",decorations are luxurious. The atmosphere of the theater as a whole is called both “magical” and “soulful”, many reviews contain praise for the staff: responsive, smiling, always ready to help.
The provincial theater offers a very diverse repertoire: during the day, both stages turn into an abode of fairy tales, and the halls are given into the possession of children who join the art: many performances are intended for young spectators (recommended age is mainly from 6 years old). There are also those where you can come with a “life-wise” teenager (“Cyrano de Bergerac”).
The creators of the productions are highly praised: “normal text”, dynamic plot, a successful combination of traditions and the possibilities of modern technologies, which the Moscow Provincial Theater does not shun at all. So, in the play “The Jungle Book. Mowgli" involved a large screen - the authors resorted to animation in those places where it was problematic to limit oneself to some scenery (and why, when the new is knocking on all windows and doors?). During the production of "Treasure Island" for the audience, with the help of a special projector, the illusion of being in the scene is created: stars twinkle overhead, seagulls fly, etc.
Step towards the viewer
The grateful audience and the design of the foyer, corresponding to the theme of each performance, note. This great idea is especially pleasing to children: little theater-goers are infinitely happy to take pictures with the banderlog (if there is a play about Mowgli ahead) or take part in pirate fun (when Treasure Island is coming).
The theater team is also imaginative in meeting the audience who came to the evening, "adult" performances.
The theater's repertoire is good and varied, the cast is of high quality, burning with creative undertakings. Relatively recently, Sergei Bezrukov tried himself in a new role as a theater director (reviews indicate that he was successful). The success of the production gave rise to a desire to share it with residents of other places: the first big tour of the Provincial Theater in the 2014-2015 season took place in St. Petersburg, Kazan, and even abroad (in Astana).
To sum up what has been said, a new, very worthy successor to the glorious theatrical traditions has appeared on the map of the Russian capital - young, perky, successfully combining classics and innovation, captivating with an attentive and respectful attitude towards his audience.
All this is a great motive to finally find the time and buy a ticket: numerous reviews do not ask, but simply demand: “Come! Look! Enjoy!"
