Opera House

The Music and Drama Theater (that's what it was originally called) began its career in 1968. His first performance was the opera "Akpatyr", written by the composer Eric Sapaev, which is still included in the repertoire. It was attended by drama actors, students of the vocal studio at the theater, soloists of the song and dance ensemble, amateurartists, teachers and students of the music school. Soon the troupe was replenished with graduates of conservatories and choreographic schools in Moscow, Leningrad, Krasnodar, Kazan, Penza and Khabarovsk.

In the seventies, the theater was divided into two separate - musical and dramatic. The first ballet in the city was staged in 1973. It was called "Forest Legend". Music for it was written by the composer A. B. Luppov. The plot of the libretto is based on Mari tales and legends. A new version of the ballet was released in 2005. And today he adorns the repertoire.

In the 80s, the Eric Sapaev Opera and Ballet Theater reached a new professional level. A symphony orchestra appeared. The repertoire has expanded, in addition to operas and ballets, musical comedies, operettas and musicals have appeared in it.

The Mari State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Eric Sapaev - this name was given to the team in 1994.

Artistic director today is Konstantin Ivanov. Thanks to him, the theater organizes several prestigious, major festivals. Original classical ballets that have received prizes and awards are staged on its stage. Konstantin Ivanov is the initiator of the invitation to participate in the theater's productions of famous dancers from the best ballet troupes of the country and the world. The Mari Opera also cooperates with eminent choreographers, directors and conductors.

The E. Sapaev Theater is the only stage in Russia where the legendary triptych by Carl Orff was staged.

Among the festivals organized by the Mari Opera, a specialattention "Summer seasons". Within its framework, such complex and large-scale productions as "Sadko", "The Tsar's Bride", "Swan Lake" and so on are demonstrated in the open air. Artistic Director

Konstantin Anatolyevich Ivanov is one of the most sought-after and titled dancers in Russia. He is rightfully awarded the title of "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation". K. Ivanov - cultural adviser to the President of the Republic. In 2006, he was awarded the "Soul of Dance" award. K. A. Ivanov is a laureate of the State Prize. And he also has the title of "People's Artist of the Republic of Mari El".

Konstantin Anatolyevich brilliantly graduated from the Moscow Academy of Choreography in 1992. Immediately after completing his studies, he was accepted into the troupe of the Bolshoi Theater. There he soon became the lead dancer. In 1996, he was educated as a teacher-tutor. And in 2007 - director-choreographer.

The Eric Sapaev Opera and Ballet Theater is the organizer of several festivals:
