They say that little Salvatore painted his first painting at the age of ten. It resembled an impressionistic landscape and was painted on a wooden board with simple oil paints. Dali sat in a small room for days on end, and by the age of fourteen his original pronounced talent had taken on quite real forms, and Dali's paintings - a clear professionalism of execution.

Painting, literature, cinema

In 1921, Salvador enters the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. In the 30s, the young artist admires the work of the Futurists, but is already thinking about creating his own style in art. Literature was of no small importance in the work of Salvador Dali. He writes and publishes his works about outstanding artists of various eras, meets and befriends the poet Lorca. A natural genius is talented in everything he touches: acquaintance with Luis Bonuel served as an occasion for their joint work in later years (The Andalusian Dog in 1929 and The Golden Age in 1931 were written according to the scripts of the great artist).

Influence of cubism and first exhibitions

In the early 30s, the attention of a young artist was riveted to cubism and the creations of another genius - PabloPicasso. So, for example, in the style and method of Dali's painting "Young Girls" (1923), a clear influence of this direction can be traced. In 1925, a personal exhibition of the artist takes place. It featured 27 paintings and several drawings by Salvador Dali. The paintings are a success and are accompanied by the outrageous master. And in 1926, Salvador moved to Paris, which had a huge impact on the artist's future work.

Surrealism

In Paris, a young artist joins a group of surrealists led by Henri Burton, who delight in shocking the public with a variety of actions and violent behavior. A new art direction completely captures the imagination of El Salvador. Dali's new paintings - "Honey is sweeter than blood", "Bright joys" - contain elements of the aesthetics of surrealism. The previously mentioned film, shot in the same vein, is released: Andalusian Dog. By the end of 1929, surrealism was becoming prominent, but for many a controversial and unacceptable art direction.

Gala

In 1929, Dali met Elena Dyakonova (Gala), who became the artist's muse for many years. In 1930, Dali's paintings Blurred Time, The Persistence of Memory and others brought him wide fame and popularity. And Gala finally gets a divorce from Paul Eluard, whose wife she was in fact, and marries an already famous artist (1934). A little earlier, the artist breaks with the Breton group, declaring his famous: “Surrealism is me!”

Salvador Dali: Paintings

Metamorphoses of Narcissus (1937) is one of the artist's most famous paintings. The theme of the painting is directly related to the philosophy of art. Simultaneously with the canvas, the literary work “Metamorphoses of Narcissus. The Paranoid Theme”, which in turn was a continuation of the work “Conquest of the Irrational”, where Dali formulates his theory of the paranoid-critical method in art.

Dali draws Narcissus bowed by the water. The character looks at her. Nearby is a crumbling stone, repeating the outlines of the hero of the plot, but at the same time it also resembles an onion with a flower growing from it. In the background is a group of nudes, and a third narcissistic figure appears on the horizon. Such originality and ambiguity in the interpretation of the image of Narcissus (as well as many images of the artist's paintings) required additional explanations. Salvador even wrote a poem in verse for his painting.

Dali is close

In subsequent paintings, such as "Atomic Leda", "Christ of St. Juan de la Cruz", "The Last Supper", "Sodom self-satisfaction of an innocent maiden" and many others, the artist continues to shock the public, formulating the laws of "nuclear mysticism"”, and critics of all stripes vying with each other to come up with a description of the paintings for Dali worthy of a great genius. But also accessible to the perception of an ordinary person.
