Assuming that the light source is located at the top right, we begin to hatch the bird with lines of different lengths; for light tones we use a 2H or HB pencil, we apply hatching with curved lines, repeating the shape of the body. Trace the highlights on the cheeks and on the head, pay attention to the fact that the shadows outline the shape of the head. Sketch the beak with cross-contrasting hatching, shade the eyes in the upper part, leaving a white highlight.

Adding dark tones to the wings, the neck, the areas in shadow. We use a pencil 2B and HB. Please note that the feathers on the lower part of the neck are larger than on the top, so the strokes here need to be made longer, more curved and with more space between them.
