George Miloslavsky is an incredibly charming crook, created by Mikhail Bulgakov. Only the brilliant Ostap Bender Ilf and Petrov can compare with him. What works mention the figure of Miloslavsky and who played him best on the screen?
Character Creation Story
The legendary Mikhail Bulgakov first mentioned the personality of Yuri Miloslavsky in his play "Bliss" in 1934. This work was not published until 1966. Almost no one knew about him. But in fact, it is the basis on which a more perfect play called "Ivan Vasilyevich" was created a little later.
In "Bliss" the action begins from the moment when the manager of the house appeared in the house of the inventor Evgeny Rein and demanded a full refund of the rent. In response, Rein shares with Bunsch his new discovery - the time machine. First, the inventor starts the machine and opens a portal to the 16th century, as a result of which Tsar Ivan the Terrible moves to the present. Then Rain removes the wall between the two apartments, and here in front of usthe same legendary fraudster thief Miloslavsky appears. The play ends with all three going to the year 2222.
The play "Ivan Vasilyevich" echoes the plot of "Bliss", but it is better known to modern cinema and theater lovers thanks to the film by Leonid Gaidai.
George's personality and work style
The real name of the adventurer Miloslavsky is Yuri. Yuri has two nicknames at once: "George" and "Soloist". "Georges" - this is how the name Yuri is pronounced in the French manner. The thief got his last nickname because he always works alone, and also because of his habit of telling everyone that he is a famous actor.
"Artist of small and large theaters" - that's who Georges Miloslavsky introduced himself in case of emergency. And when the interlocutor asked to clarify the last name, the scammer refused to give her name and pretended to be offended.
Many people had no doubt that Georges belonged to art, because his appearance was rather well-groomed: a shaved face, an elegant suit…
The swindler robbed apartments only in black gloves. But his campaigns did not always end successfully: Miloslavsky was imprisoned several times.
Where Georges Miloslavsky kept the money is unknown, but he advises citizens to keep their we alth in savings banks. This phrase of Georges has turned into a winged slogan, which is often used by banks to advertise deposit services.
Plays featuring Miloslavsky
George Miloslavsky appears in only two plays by Mikhail Bulgakov.
"Bliss" the author began to write in 1934, after he signed an agreement with the music hall. But the customer did not like this play. Therefore, Bulgakov soon began to refine and expand it. So in 1935, the play "Ivan Vasilyevich" appeared.
The difference between these works was significant. Firstly, the main character was already called Nikolai Timofeev, and not Evgeny Rein. And first he removed the wall between his room and Shpak's apartment, and only then sent his friends to the 16th century. There was no hint of a subsequent journey into the future in the new play.
The first edition of the play "Ivan Vasilyevich" meant that everything described actually happened. But then Bulgakov decided to turn it all into a dream. In 1965, the work was first published immediately in the second edition, according to which all the incredible events were just a dream of the inventor.
Unfortunately, both Mikhail Bulgakov's plays that featured Georges lay on the table for more than thirty years before they were published.
Films featuring the character
George Miloslavsky is the protagonist of only three films: "Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession", "Old Songs about the Main 3" and "Black Gloves".
"Ivan Vasilyevich…" was filmed in 1973 by Leonid Gaidai. For the role of the inventor Timofeev, the director called his favorite hero Alexander Demyanenko. In order not to destroy the usual image of the simpleton Shurik, the engineer was renamed from Nikolai to Alexander. And inthe rest of the film is strictly according to the play, with the exception of minor details.
Gaidai invited such celebrities as Yuri Yakovlev, Leonid Kuravlev, Savely Kramarov, Natalya Selezneva to star in his film. In the same year, the director released the short film "Black Gloves", stylized as a silent movie, which was entirely dedicated to the "exploits" of Miloslavsky.
In 1997, the creators of the popular New Year's program "Old songs about the main thing-3" returned to the plot of Bulgakov's play and Gaidai's film. According to the version of the entertaining film, Georges Miloslavsky again had to travel to the 16th century in the 70s and remain the regent on the throne, while the escaped Ivan the Terrible tried to start an acting career at the Mosfilm studio.
Georges Miloslavsky: which of the artists played him?
Surprisingly, the adventurer Miloslavsky has only one "face" on the screens - this is the actor Leonid Kuravlev. He played a con artist in all three films mentioned. Georges Miloslavsky is almost the best reincarnation of Leonid Kuravlev in cinema.
