Eduard Shim is a Soviet writer who mainly created works for children. Also known as a playwright, screenwriter and poet.

The future writer was born on August 23, 1930 in Russia, Leningrad. Before the war, Shim was brought up by his mother Anna Yuryevna, since the boy's father died in the year of his birth.

When the Great Patriotic War began, for security reasons, Eduard Yurievich Shim, along with other children, was evacuated from Leningrad to the Kostroma region, to one of the local orphanages. The writer's mother remained in the city and probably died during the blockade.

Shim spent most of his childhood in an orphanage. Then he returned to his native city, where he entered the architectural and art school as an applied artist. Worked in a design office. Alsotried himself as a carpenter, turner and driver.

In 1952, Eduard Yurievich Shim was drafted into the army. After serving, he did not return to his previous job, but got a job on the radio. It was this period that can be considered the beginning of Shim's writing career. His stories have been published in popular children's publications.

Authorship of Eduard Yurievich Shim also owns several works intended for a more adult audience. In addition, Shim is known as the author of film scripts and children's cartoons, plays, poems and songs.

The writer passed away on March 13, 2006, having lived a long life of 75 years. Shim died in Moscow and was buried at the Mitinsky cemetery.

Creativity

Throughout his life, Eduard Yurievich Shim created dozens of short stories and novellas, six plays and about 20 scripts for cartoons and films.

Most of the writer's works are intended for children of preschool and primary school age. In his novels and short stories, Eduard Yuryevich Shim introduces young readers to the wonderful world of nature and its many inhabitants, teaches a reasonable and careful attitude to the world around. The main characters of his works are birds, insects, mice, bears, moose and other animals.

Despite the fact that Shim is mainly known as a children's writer, his bibliography contains several adult-oriented stories and novellas. Such works include "Night at the end of the month",“When it goes out”, “Vanya sings songs.”

Among the plays created by Eduard Shim are "The Queen and the Seven Daughters", "Wanted to Work", "Challenge" and others.

According to the scripts written by Shim, a lot of children's cartoons were shot ("The Silent Hamster", "How a Puppy Learned to Swim", "Don't Be Afraid of Me", "The Little Mouse and the Red Sun"), as well as feature films films. For example, one of the most famous works of Eduard Shim was the script for the painting "Order: Cross the Border".

Writer Awards and Prizes

Eduard Yurievich Shim received his first award on August 22, 1980. This award was the Order of the Badge of Honor.

A few years later, in 1984, the writer was awarded the Vasilyev Brothers State Prize of the RSFSR for writing the script for the film Order: Cross the Border.

In the same year, Shim received the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
