Scientists cannot answer hundreds of questions from civilians, the world is in a panic.

Storyline

The main events take place three years after the loss. People still have not recovered from the loss of loved ones. Some of them even united in strange communities, more like sects. Their members never talk, wear white, eat bad food and smoke all the time. In their opinion, the main goal of the organization is to make people remember. It is because of this that members of the organization periodically arrange various actions. Most often they take to the streets with screaming posters. In addition, they ruined the celebration of the anniversary of the disappearance. But the largest movement was the creation of dolls of the disappeared, which were planted in the homes of their loved ones. Because of this, various skirmishes between ordinary people and members of the sect very often occur.

In the first season of the series, events unfold in the city of Mapleton. In the second chapter of the story, the central action is transferred to the small town of Miracle. He is known for the fact that at the time of the disappearance there was not a single missing person. In the third part of the project, the main characters move to Australia. As the story progresses, the series becomes more and more easy to follow. It carries a lot of irony, ridiculehuman stupidity and religious fanaticism.

The story of the main character

The central character of the story was a young sheriff named Kevin Garvey. He is raising two children. However, the guy also suffers from a nervous breakdown. The authorities begin to think about how to remove him from work, as now the guy begins to shoot dogs that seem aggressive to him. Over time, Kevin's condition worsens even more.

Garvey's ex-wife, Laurie, has also changed a lot since her disappearance. In the first season of The Leftovers (2014), she is shown as one of the members of the white cult. Kevin tries to persuade her to return to the family, but he fails.

As for the children of Lori and Kevin, the eldest son Tommy also left after his mother left the family. He joined the team of a mystical healer believed to be the Messiah. Harvey's daughter, young Jill, became very withdrawn, and their relationship with her father deteriorated greatly.

Other storylines

An important character in the story is priest Matt Jamis. He denies the theory that the disappearance is the ascension described in the Bible. As proof of this, he distributes leaflets with biographies of the missing, revealing their greatest vices so that people do not think that all the departed were saints. His family has also been hit hard by the disappearance. Matt's wife was in the car at the time, and her driver was missing. Now she is in a coma, but Jamis continues to believe in her healing.

One ofthe main characters are also Matt's sister, Nora Durst. On a fateful day for all mankind, her two children and husband disappeared. She now works for the Department of Disappearances, hoping to help other people who are left without their families.

All actors and roles in The Leftovers were chosen very carefully, so that all the main characters were well revealed to the audience. At the same time, their fates remained mysterious, as the creators of the story wanted to show.

What really happened?

Despite the fact that the actors and creators of The Leftovers, whose roles in the development of the project were very important, they repeatedly repeated that viewers should not even expect an answer to the question of what really happened in the last series of the project, fans did find out where two percent of the world's population disappeared.

Nora Durst herself told about it. The fact is that she was able to get to the place where the disappeared went. According to the girl, the world was somehow divided into two realities. One of them is the one in which she was, and in the other, all the disappeared existed. Nora was shocked by that world and realized that those people had lost much more. Their life became incredibly difficult, literally everything had to change. Planes no longer fly long distances due to a lack of pilots, steamships do not sail, and so on.

The girl was able to find her family in that world, but did not dare to approach. Suddenly she saw that the relatives were able to survive the loss and werehappy.

The series "The Leftovers" closely introduced viewers to such celebrities as Justin Theroux, Amy Brennerman, Carrie Coon, Christopher Eccleston. These actors portrayed the roles of Kevin, Laurie, Nora and Matt, respectively. Also involved in the project were Ann Dowd (Patty Levine), Liv Tyler (Meg), Margaret Qualley (Jill). Tommy is played by Chris Zylka.
