Summary
In the twelfth century, England is torn apart by civil strife, immersed in a deep pool of political unrest. The reigning monarch is killed, the new king has not been determined, all those close to the throne begin a frantic struggle for the right to occupy the empty throne. King Henry I (actor Clive Wood) loses his only heir to a shipwreck. His second child - daughter Matilda (actress Alison Pill) does not have the right to take the throne, only her heir, and then upon reaching the 18th birthday. Soon, Henry also dies at the hands of ill-wishers, power, at the insistence of the bishop (actor Gordon Pinsent), passes to Stephen of Blois (actor Tony Curran), the nephew of the deceased monarch. Matilda, with the support of her brother, the illegitimate son of the monarch Robert (actor Matt Devereux), a longtime ally of Bartholomew (actor Donald Sutherland), is preparing an uprising.
