The Lomonosov Drama Theater (Arkhangelsk) has existed for a very long time. His repertoire includes performances not only for adults, but also for children. Viewers can see performances of both classical works and plays by contemporary authors.
History of the theater
The first attempt to organize a drama theater (Arkhangelsk did not have such cultural institutions at that time) was made in 1790. Ivan Romanovich von Lieven filed a petition to the capital, where he wrote that the city needed such performances, as they would be useful for youth. In 1793, the construction of the theater began. The building was built of stone. But it was not completed - the city authorities did not find the money for this. Then a command came from St. Petersburg to turn the unfinished building into a bread shop.
In the 1840s, the intelligentsia of the city lost hope of waiting for the construction of a theater from the authorities. A collection of donations was organized for the construction of a building for performances. In 1846, a wooden building with a hall appeared in the city.for 650 seats. At first, only amateurs played here, and a year later, professional artists arrived from Yaroslavl. In 1851 there was a fire, and the theater building was badly damaged. But the intelligentsia was so eager for performances to be played in the city that another building was bought with the money that was received from the insurers. It was purchased from the merchant Yermolin and was also damaged by fire, but less than the theater building. The city authorities and merchants-philanthropists helped in its restoration.
The intelligentsia had high hopes for the Drama Theater (Arkhangelsk). It was designed to distract people from cards, drunkenness, gossip and other such activities. There was no permanent professional troupe, performances were performed by visiting artists and amateurs.
In 1931, a new building was built, in which the Drama Theater. Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk) is located to this day. A professional troupe was assembled. The theater building has gone through two renovations. The first lasted from 1964 to 1967. The second ended in 2009.
