Tomsk Regional Drama Theater is one of the oldest in Siberia. Today, his repertoire includes classical works, plays by modern playwrights and performances for boys and girls.
History
The Drama Theater (Tomsk) opened in 1850. A special building was built for him. It was wooden. Funds for it were donated by the mayor, a merchant of the first guild N. E. Filimonov. Part of the funds was collected by subscription. The building stood for 32 years, then fell into disrepair and was sold for firewood. In the 80s of the 19th century, the governor I. I. Krasovsky decided to build a new worthy building for the theater. The merchant E. Korolev supported his idea. The building was built according to the project of the architect P. Naranovich. The new theater opened its doors in 1885. The first performances were "Zateynitsa" and "Guilty Without Guilt". The auditorium of the new theater could accommodate up to a thousand spectators. The repertoire at that time was exclusively classical. During the revolution, the theater was used for rallies, and was soon burned down. During the Second World War, artists were evacuated from the city. After the end of the war, the former front-line theater joined the troupe of the Tomsk Dramanamed after Chkalov, as well as artists from Narymsk. In the 50-60s. plays on the Siberian theme appeared in the repertoire. The building in which the theater “lives” now was built in 1978. There is a museum at the Tomsk Drama, where there are many interesting exhibits, documents, excursions are regularly held.
