Every city has its own drama theatre. Astrakhan is no exception. Such a cultural institution has existed here for more than a century. His first actors began their creative career from an ordinary barn, where performances by an amateur troupe were staged. History of the theater

Drama Theater (Astrakhan), the photo of the building of which is presented in this article, was founded by Lieutenant A. Gruzinov in 1810. Then the troupe was not permanent. Only visiting actors performed in front of the townspeople. Their own artists appeared in the theater a little later. Performances, as already mentioned, were in the barn of the merchant Tokarev. A small utility room was specially converted for such purposes. The stone building, where performances could also be shown in winter, was built in 1887.

After the revolution, sailors, soldiers, and the working class became the main audience. The Drama Theatre, which Astrakhan can be proud of, was forced to change its repertoire. Now it includes performances that are in tune with that time. New adjustments to life, the creative activity of the theater was made by the war. The actors were divided into brigades and began to perform in hospitals in front of the wounded, military units, and at the construction of defensive structures. Now their main task was to raise the morale of the defenders of the Motherland. Most of the repertoire consisted of works about the war.

The year 1986 brought the Order of the Badge of Honor to the Drama Theater. A year after this event, the theater was closed for restoration, which lasted seven years. At this time, the troupe was forced to roam around other people's sites. But, despite the trials, several premieres took place during this period: Trees Die Standing, Balzaminov's Marriage, A Streetcar Named Desire. The most striking performances of the last century were: The Ghost of Alexander Wolf, The Idiot, The Death of Tarelkin, The Fool, Family Portrait with a Stranger.

In the early 2000s, A. Tsodikov became the head of the theater. Thanks to him, the productions acquired elegance, originality and psychologism. The repertoire included "cash" comedy plays. Today, the program of the Astrakhan drama has performances for absolutely every taste. There are classics, musical performances, avant-garde, and children's fairy tales. The performances of works by N. V. Gogol, M. Yu. Lermontov, A. N. Ostrovsky, Camoletti, Scribe and others are very popular. Troupe every seasonreleases 7-8 premieres. The theater is directed by a talented and experienced director S. V. Tayushev.
