Martin McDonagh is called the great playwright of our time. Even the most cynical critics speak about him with respect, they call him an intelligent, deep and subtle author, comparing him with Ostrovsky, Chekhov, Albee and Beckett. Martin McDonagh (in fact, the pronunciation is more consistent with the McDunn version) is an Irish-born English playwright, screenwriter, film director, and producer. In 1997, his play Beauty Queen, written a year earlier, was staged on Broadway in just a week. After the Tony and Evening Standard theatrical awards, the author becomes world famous.

Through thorns to cinema

Despite a more than successful and fast-paced career as a playwright, Martin McDonagh became more and more interested in cinema. After reviewing hundreds of films, preferring the work of Scorsese, Lynch and Tarantino, Martin began to write screenplays, which initially did not work out too well. Although the plays created in the same period were accepted with enthusiasm by a grateful audience. But, having shown enviable perseverance, the playwright nevertheless burst into the chaotic world of the film industry.
