The beginning of the creative path

Martin McDonagh was born on March 26, 1970. His father, a native Irishman, was a construction worker, his mother was a cleaner. The future idol of millions was born in London, but after some time his parents would return to their historical homeland - Galway (Ireland), and Martin and his brother chose to stay in Britain. After living for some time on unemployment benefits, the future playwright Martin McDonagh took up his pen. An endless number of plays and scripts have been categorically rejectededitions, after which a resounding success came to him. In 1997, his play Beauty Queen, written a year earlier, was staged on Broadway in just a week. After the Tony and Evening Standard theatrical awards, the author becomes world famous.

Through thorns to cinema

Despite a more than successful and fast-paced career as a playwright, Martin McDonagh became more and more interested in cinema. After reviewing hundreds of films, preferring the work of Scorsese, Lynch and Tarantino, Martin began to write screenplays, which initially did not work out too well. Although the plays created in the same period were accepted with enthusiasm by a grateful audience. But, having shown enviable perseverance, the playwright nevertheless burst into the chaotic world of the film industry.

Mr McDonagh found his audience

Martin McDonagh, whose filmography is currently quite impressive, has managed to prove himself in various roles in the cinema.

As director and screenwriter:

  • "Full Clip (Six Shot)" (2005) - the film was called one of the best in the black crime comedy subgenre, or "Tarantine". McDonagh's individual writing style was recognized as unique, and his project was recognized as a combination of a heartbreaking drama with an intellectual crime comedy.
  • "Lie Down in Bruges" (2008) - the debut full-length picture caused general delight. Martin McDonagh has collected in the project everything that is famous for British cinema. Interesting characters and great actors. Blackhumor that does not contradict the fact that in the end the movie turns out to be a tragedy. Famously twisted plot.
  • “Seven Psychopaths” (2012) is a celebration of postmodernism and a parody of parodies, in which brutal humor is mixed in equal proportions with touchingly gentle and allegorical. It is extremely difficult to categorically unambiguously define the genre policy of this freaky film project even for a hardened seasoned movie fan. Director Martin McDonagh shoots all films in this spirit, this is his author's style.

As producer - Once Upon a Time in Ireland (2011), Seven Psychopaths (2012).

New world theatrical sensation

The critics unanimously called the playwright the "new Gogol" for his unique humor, and the "anti-Tarantino" for his amazing philanthropy. Now Martin's creations are staged everywhere: in America, Europe and Russia. Leading domestic theatergoers find countless allusions to Russian reality in his plays.

The play "The Queen of Beauty", which brought Martin McDonagh world fame, is included in the repertoire of the Moscow theater "Satyricon". According to Konstantin Raikin, he chose her not by chance, there is a domestic conflict in it, which is understandable to the domestic audience. The main character leaves a wide choice for the manifestation of the creative imagination of not only the actor, but also the director. There is comedy and intriguing novelty in the reincarnations.

On the stage of the Moscow Art Theater is another psychological thriller from McDonagh. Stage director KirillSerebrennikov deliberately retained the gloomy poetry and black humor of The Pillow Man. The plot narrative takes the viewer to a harsh totalitarian state, in which an inquiry takes place and during it a young writer is knocked out of testimony. His guilt lies in the fact that the distraught maniac brings to life the plots of his short stories. The action resembles a confession.

Let's hope that Martin McDonagh will retain his corporate identity and unique sense of taste, will not slow down and continue to delight the public with his creativity.
