Kozlov's "Workshop" is a theater that is insanely popular in St. Petersburg and beyond. The culprit of such people's love is its founder, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, Grigory Kozlov.
In 2015, the theater celebrated a double anniversary: the sixtieth anniversary of Grigory Kozlov and the fifth anniversary of the founding of the theater. The actors (and all of them are graduates of G. Kozlov's theater studio) have been preparing for this date for several months, which Grigory Mikhailovich spoke about with surprise and pride.
Creating a theater
The theater received its name - "Workshop" of Kozlov - not by chance, because the word denotes the workplace of professionals in their field. It is here that the formation of artists hardened in fire, water and copper pipes takes place. The main ideological leader likes to repeat that the theater is a family. And both in the family and on stage, everything should happen for real.
The most interesting thing is that all the actors are graduates of the theater studio G. M. Kozlov, where they are affectionately called "goats". The guys are almost the same age, know each other for a long time, which allows them to improvise on stage, create a really friendly atmosphere.
The internal structure of the theater is such that the audience from their seats perfectly see and hear everything that happens on the stage.
Staging
The theater's repertoire is the most diverse, there are more dramatic productions based on Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Sholokhov. But the game of the guys is so captivating, everything happens as believably as in life, where there is a place for both tragedy and comedy, that the viewer does not understand what kind of production he came to: comedy or drama.
The staging is done by the master himself, as well as by his students. Among the latest performances there is one that is unusual in its content. This is a production of "Love and Lenin", where the leader of the revolution is shown as an ordinary weak man who loves two women. The director is Roman Gabria. Kozlov's "Workshop" is a theater where a team of artists treated Lenin's personality with great responsibility and even went to Gorki, visited the Ilyich Museum.
The director of the performance says that telling people about Lenin is a hopeless and inconvenient business, no one likes him. He is treated as an odious person, and love is a creative feeling. Therefore, Lenin and love is already a paradox. The thought creeps in that, having exchanged Krupskaya for Inessa Armand, Ulyanov, perhaps, would not have become the ideological leader of the revolution.
Quiet Don
Kozlov's workshop - the theater where in the play "Quiet Flows the Don"involved young artists. And they play in such a way that, according to the famous theater and film critic Tatyana Moskvina, the viewer understands the author of the novel, his passion, youth, love for his land.
In the first part of the production there is no indifference, no peace, a lot of love, even too much, too much, and you can suffocate from what is raging on the stage. Moskvina even quotes Stanislavsky, who owns the words: "You don't have to play well or badly, you have to play right." It is this fidelity that is felt in every scene of the play.
The actors play without any ideology, as if they themselves grew up in the village of Tatarskaya and must mow, plow, give birth, go to war, serve their fatherland.
Grigory Mikhailovich Kozlov
Grigory Mikhailovich was born in 1955, during the "thaw". In 1976 he entered the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, graduated from it and worked as an engineer for three years. At the age of 28, he decided to change his life, and, supported by his mother, he entered the directing department of LGITMiK. All his further activities were connected with the theater. The director likes to say that he combines business with pleasure: he does what he loves and gets paid for it.
Kozlov's "Workshop" (St. Petersburg theatre), where "each performance is its own way of talking with the audience, somewhere it must stir up a person, somewhere over fiction a person can shed tears, somewhere laugh, but not thoughtlessly,” says Grigory Mikhailovich.
Questions to the author
Onthe question of how a modern artist differs from artists of past years, the master answers that on stage, a modern actor needs to think faster, navigate. But most importantly, he should play about a person.
Young people are becoming more technological, life is hectic, vain, people from all sides receive a lot of necessary and unnecessary information. In short, the environment is changing, but human problems remain.
Kozlov's "Workshop" (theater), the reviews of the audience deserve only the most flattering ones. All comments are positive, one might say enthusiastic, mostly written by young people. And this is in our time, when young people seem to be more interested in the light genre.
The director advises young people to read more good literature. He himself, in the sixth grade, having missed a week at school, read the entire novel "War and Peace" and remembers the impression made on him. Bulgakov's "Days of the Turbins" was his grandfather's reference book, and Ivan Bunin was and remains his favorite author, according to whose stories Kozlov staged performances.
Where is Kozlov's "Workshop"?
The theater is located far from the center, it is problematic to get there without personal transport, but motorists can breathe freely: there is a lot of parking space. It is pleasant to be inside the building, there is nothing superfluous, there are many comfortable sofas, everything is clean and tidy, and you can have a bite to eat in the buffet at an affordable price.
