The Moscow Theater of Modern Play (the exact name is the Moscow Theater "School of Modern Play") is quite young. It has existed for about 30 years. In his repertoire, classics coexist with modernity. A whole galaxy of theater and film stars work in the troupe.
History of the theater
The Modern Play Theater was opened in 1989. Initially, it was an experimental studio. During perestroika, many such troupes were created, so the competition was fierce. Not everyone was able to survive. The "School of the Modern Play" was one of the few that succeeded.
Soon the studio grew into a theater. His repertoire includes only those plays written by contemporary playwrights. The name of the theater reflects this fact. Many of the works that go on his stage were written especially for him. The theater troupe consists of talented professional artists. Many of them are famous for their roles in films and TV shows.
For almost thirty years of its existence, the theater of the modern play has presented the audiencemore than seventy productions. Its main principles are experiment, constant search for something new, freshness of techniques. The theater develops, becomes mature, but at the same time tries not to lose its youth. This season (2015-2016) its playbill offers 21 productions of various genres. Among them are performances for children, as well as performances that have become legendary, as they have not left the stage for many years and have withstood a record number of shows with a constant full house. One of these performances is "Why are you in a tailcoat?".
The Contemporary Play Theater actively cooperates with outstanding directors of different generations - Mikhail Kozakov, Leonid Kheifets, Dmitry Astrakhan, Sergei Yursky, Boris Milgram, Stanislav Govorukhin, Ivan Vyrypaev, Boris Morozov and others.
Every year the theater puts on performances by young novice directors. Here they make their debut as directors. The theater provides them with a territory to explore, experiment and gain invaluable experience.
Today the artistic director of the "School of the modern play" is director Iosif Reichelgauz.
