The theater on Spasskaya (Kirov) opened its doors in the 30s of the twentieth century. Initially, the repertoire included only children's performances. Today you can see performances here not only for young viewers, but also for young people and adults.
History of the theater
The theater on Spasskaya (Kirov) was founded in 1935. It is located in the old mansion of the merchant Arshaulov, built in the early 19th century. This building is famous for the fact that a ball was held here in honor of the widow of A. S. Pushkin - Natalia Goncharova, when she arrived in Kirov with her second husband. Later, the premises were used for musical and literary evenings, exhibitions, and concerts. In Soviet times, there was a museum here, and then a cinema.
The work of the first professional theater for children in Kirov began with a performance based on the play by V. Lyubimova "Seryozha Streltsov". It was staged by the first artistic director M. S. Shokhov.
The theater on Spasskaya (Kirov) has been rebuilt several times during its creative life. Almost all of it was rebuilt from the inside.
In the Kirov Youth Theater worksa wonderful team of talented actors, directors, artists and so on.
In 1937 the theater was named after the writer N. Ostrovsky.
In 1970, performances for adults entered the repertoire. The first of them was "Hamlet" by W. Shakespeare. The Ministry of Culture awarded the theater for this performance.
A very interesting period in the life of the theater lasted from 1980 to 2004. It is associated with the name of Alexander Pavlovich Klokov. He was the artistic director of the theater during this period. A. Klokov created many brilliant productions. Another of his merit is that he managed to gather an excellent troupe.
In 2000, the Kirov Youth Theater was declared the theater of the year and included in the top five provincial theaters in our country.
Since 2001, Irina Brezhneva's project "Migration" has been working at the theater. Thanks to him, the repertoire of the Youth Theater includes choreographic miniatures and performances.
The theater's touring geography is extensive.
Today the repertoire of the Youth Theater includes performances for spectators of all ages. It is based on classical works, although modern dramaturgy also plays a significant role.
