The Osobnyak Theater (St. Petersburg) emerged in the 80s of the 20th century from a professional studio. His repertoire includes extraordinary performances based on modern and classical works.
About the theater
The Osobnyak Theater was founded by its permanent artistic director and leading actor Dmitry Podnozov. In the late 80s he formed a professional studio in the city of Pushkin. In 1996, the troupe moved to St. Petersburg.
The room in which the theater is located is small. The entrance to the auditorium is directly from the street. Artists enter the dressing room through the front door. The foyer is quite tiny. Instead of wallpaper, the walls are covered with posters from different years. Spectators at the entrance are met by a very friendly and kind administrator who will tell about the history of the theater and about each performance to everyone who wants to listen. The hall can accommodate a maximum of 80 spectators.
The Osobnyak Theater (55, Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt) is a non-state institution without official status. The team is very small. "Osobnyak" is one of the few chamber theaters that managed to survive and even collectssold out. The secret of success is that they pay a lot of attention to the repertoire policy.
The Mansion is, first of all, an experimental laboratory. It is one of the most mysterious theaters in St. Petersburg. All productions of the theater are distinguished by a deep philosophical approach and freedom of improvisation. Most performances are based on plays that are little known to a wide audience, often the works of contemporary playwrights.
The festival "Word and Body" is taking place in the theater. Within its framework, musical and plastic performances are staged on the "Osobyanka" stage.
The theater often takes part in various festivals among chamber groups both in Russia and abroad. His performances have become laureates more than once. Lexicon was nominated for a Golden Mask in 2003.
In 2001, A. Slyusarchuk became the chief director of the theater. He is known in the world as a director of philosophical and existential stories. He worked with the works of Joyce, Pavic, Fosse, Arrabal, Nietzsche, Ionesco. The hallmark of the "Mansion" is his performance "The King is dying" based on the play by E. Ionesco. It premiered in 2008. The production has not yet been removed from the repertoire and goes on with the same full house, being one of the most beloved by the viewer.
