The Kyiv State Academic Drama and Comedy Theater on the left bank of the Dnieper was created in the second half of the 20th century. Its founder and permanent artistic director is Eduard Mitnitsky. The theater's repertoire is wide and designed for audiences of different ages.
History of the theater
Kyiv Academic Drama and Comedy Theater was opened in the seventies of the 20th century. Today it is one of the most popular among Ukrainian viewers. The troupe played its first performance in April 1979. It was a production based on the play by R. Fedenov "The highest point is love." The premiere took place on the stage of the Kyiv Puppet Theatre. The audience really liked the performance.
For many years, the theater on the left bank (dramas and comedies) wandered around different stages, as it did not have its own building. Only in 1982 did the housewarming take place. The authorities gave the troupe the premises where the Kosmos cinema had previously been located.
The artists played their first performance in their own building in December 1990.
The theater on the left bank (dramas and comedies) plays performances in two languages - Ukrainian and Russian.
The troupe often goes on tour in different cities of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, and also happens in countries such as Italy, France and so on.
Over the years of its existence, the theater has repeatedly taken part in various festivals, where it won diplomas. Most often, artists participated in the "Kyiv Pectoral". At this festival, the troupe has already received fifteen awards, having already won in almost all categories.
The theater's repertoire includes works of world classics, as well as compositions written by contemporary playwrights. Here you can see performances based on plays by such authors as F. Dostoevsky, I. Druce, V. Nezval, W. Shakespeare, A. Chekhov, M. Bulgakov, A. Amalrik, R. Rolland, T. Williams, J. Cocteau, L. Tolstoy, A. Ostrovsky, F. Sologub, F. Krommelink, N. Machiavelli, N. Gogol, E. Rostand and so on.
Talented, bright and professional actors serve in the theater troupe, who can handle any creative task, even the most difficult ones. There are also wonderful directors working here, each of whom has his own view. In addition, the theater collaborates with directors from other cities and countries who bring diversity.
