The Opera and Ballet Theater (Dnepropetrovsk) is the pride of the city. Great artists work here. The repertoire includes operas, operettas, musicals, classical and modern ballets and musical and choreographic performances.

History of the theater

The Opera and Ballet Theater in Dnepropetrovsk was founded in the first third of the 20th century. The troupe was formed by talented people - director Mark Litvinenko, choirmaster Vasily Kiose, conductor Pyotr Varivoda and choreographer Lyudmila Voskresenskaya. Artists, in order to get into the Dnepropetrovsk theater, went through a rigorous selection. The basis of the troupe was graduates of choreographic schools and conservatories from different cities of the USSR.

The repertoire of the Opera and Ballet Theater in Dnepropetrovsk has always been distinguished by a mixture of classics and modernity, care for traditions and readiness for experiments. In the first decades of its existence, performances of Don Juan, The Forest Song, The Barber of Seville, The Mother Field, Giselle, Rigoletto, Porgy and Bess, Carmen, etc. were staged on its stage.

When did it startwar, the troupe was evacuated to Krasnoyarsk. After its completion, the theater officially ceased to exist.

A new life began in 1974. The theater was revived, again became loved by the audience and treated kindly by critics. His repertoire was replenished with new productions. His performances receive the highest ratings.

In those years, the repertoire included such performances as La Traviata, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Silva, Don Quixote, Grand W altz, Madama Butterfly, Troubadour, Prodigal Son”, “Zaporozhets beyond the Danube”, “Quiet Don”, “Jester”, “The Nutcracker”, “La Gioconda”, “Asel”, “Banners”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Returned May”.

After the death of its founders, the theater went through difficult times. The change of creative leaders was painful. Soon the era of perestroika began. The theater was underfunded. New performances in the repertoire began to appear less and less. During that difficult period, the theater was headed by Yuri Chaika.

In order to survive, the troupe begins touring Europe. The theater has visited Italy, Bulgaria, Israel, Germany, France and many other countries. Everywhere the artists were waiting for success. Today, touring has become an integral part of the troupe's creative life.

In 2003, the theater was awarded the title of academic.

First musical

Today the theater's repertoire includes not only operas, ballets and operettas, but also musicals. The very first and so far the only production of this popular genre was "Sorochinsky Fair". In November 2015, this musical was presented to the public and critics for the first time by the Opera and Ballet Theater (Dnepropetrovsk). "Fair" is a performance based on the well-known novel by N. V. Gogol. The music for the production was written by Ukrainian composer Oleksandr Zlotnyk. "Sorochinka Fair" is a bright performance with folk flavor and interesting characteristic characters. The musical encourages the viewer to re-read the immortal work of Nikolai Vasilyevich.

Magic of the theater

Every year an exhibition is held for young artists of the city. The Opera and Ballet Theater (Dnepropetrovsk) is its organizer. It is attended by children who study at an art school or are engaged in an art studio. The exhibition is called "The Magic of the Theatre". Boys and girls should express their views on this art form in their paintings,performance impressions. Before the exhibition, a competition is necessarily held, in which the most interesting works are selected. These paintings and get the right to be in the exhibition. The authors of the best, according to the competent jury, works receive diplomas. This year, 200 children's paintings were submitted to the competition. Of these, 67 were selected for the exposition. Children from 9 to 17 years old can take part in the exhibition-competition.
