The famous English prose writer Arthur Hailey wrote the novel "Hotel" in 1965. In this work, the author tried to expose the acute social problems that were brewing in the society of that time, while Haley did not see any serious relationship between them and bourgeois reality.

The main meaning of the storyline of the work

So, "Hotel". Arthur Haley. What is this piece about? The author takes the reader to New Orleans, where a large hotel exists and successfully operates.

From the first lines, the novel tells a series of hard-hitting stories. Young people brought up in quite intelligent families organized a noisy party in their room, during which they drank a huge amount of alcohol. It all ended just awful: the guys wanted to forcefully enter into an intimate relationship with a girl named Marsh Preyscott, who was the daughter of a we althy man. This crime was prevented by the hotel employee Aloisius Royce - he protected the girl from the young bumpkins. Then one of the clients of the hotel became ill and had tohelp. In addition, a married couple commits a deliberate atrocity: they knock down a mother with a child in a car, and then come up with an alibi for themselves, as if they did not leave the hotel at the time of the tragedy.

The main characters of the work

Of course, Arthur Hailey tried to make the plot of the novel "Hotel" as exciting as possible. Which, in fact, he succeeded. All the troubles and troubles that have occurred in the hotel are managed to smooth over by Peter McDermott, who holds the position of assistant manager, and Christina Francis, the secretary of the hotel owner.

In The Hotel, Arthur Hailey builds a storyline in such a way that a romance begins to develop between a clerk and a secretary. However, Marsh Preyscott began to impose her friendship on Peter, offering to marry him.

However, the financial situation of the hotel leaves much to be desired. In the work "Hotel" Arthur Hailey shows its owner as a rather conservative person who does not want any innovations or changes. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the hotel staff carelessly perform their duties and constantly steal.

Ultimately, Warren Trent (that's the name of the owner of the hotel) faces the problem of losing business, he begins to think about what will happen to his hotel next, because one of the banks has already begun to show interest in him. Entrepreneur Curtis O'Keeffe suddenly comes to Warren and offers to sell him the hotel. However, Trentother plans, and he takes time to think, after which he begins to look for another buyer. He succeeds, but the deal falls through. This fact will subsequently have a negative impact on business reputation.

However, the book "Hotel" is not limited to one storyline. Arthur Hailey spins another story in parallel, concerning an accident that killed a mother and a child. Head of security Ogilvie knows who committed this crime and for money helps the Croyden family cover his tracks.

How the novel ends

The finale of the work is simply breathtaking - this is what Arthur Haley's novels are remarkable for. Ogilvy is accused of aiding the dukes, and one of his guests named Wales becomes the new owner of the hotel. Peter McDermott is the hotel's vice president.
