One of the first groups in Russia that performed exclusively English-language compositions for the Russian-speaking audience was the Plasma group. Few even from the fans of the guys know that they were originally called Slow Motion. But for success in the pop field, a short, sonorous, bright, memorable name was needed that would sound the same in all languages, which is why it was decided to become Plasma. About how the Plasma group was created, its biography, described in this article, will tell in detail. We will also learn about some facts from the life of the band members.
Start started
Plasma Group was founded back in 1990. And it all started like this. Participants of the future, even in the thoughts of a collective that did not even exist, met in 1986 in Volgograd, at the Teacher's House, where they were invited to become members of a new group. Its leader Andrey Tryasuchev brought together talented young guys: Roman Chernitsyn, Nikolai Romanov,Alexei Voronkov, Sergei Starodub, Roman Rybin and Maxim Bed. But the team was not destined to exist for a long time, it soon broke up.
Three guys from the former team (Maxim Postelny, Roman Chernitsyn, Nikolai Romanov) decided to create a new one, calling it Slow Motion, which means "slow motion". The name of the group was based on the name of one of the most popular songs at that time Modern Talking. Even then, in 1990, the group's work was based on the principle of performing only English-language songs. The band members wanted to prove that it is possible to make the same progressive and high-quality music in Russia as in the West.
First songs
Immediately after the creation of the team, the guys set to work. In the same place, in Volgograd, the main musical material for the debut album was recorded. In 1991, the group released their first collection of songs called Falling In Love (translated as “falling in love”). Without waiting for the first results of the work, Nikolai Romanov left the group. In parallel with the recordings, the participants began to shoot videos, participate and win in various competitions and festivals. So, Slow Motion took second place at the First Rock Start in 1991 and first at the Second Rock Start in 1992.
Period of creative inactivity
From the end of 1992 to 1993, the group remained inactive. Roman Chernitsyn decided to get a job at the Spetsenergoremont plant, Maxim Postelny devoted all his time to studying at the art school. But one call changed everything.
The cassette with the band's records fell into the hands of Oleinik Sergey Ivanovich, general director of the Help trading house, who decided to become a sponsor of the guys. Soon, with the assistance of their patron, Roman and Maxim receive an invitation to participate in the Star Rain program. The program was broadcast on the RTR channel, and therefore almost the entire country saw it.
Start of serious work
After the duo became known, there were several who wanted to produce them. The mentor of the group was Anatoly Abolikhin, who worked with Dmitry Malikov, already well-known at that time. In 1993, some old songs were re-recorded in Volgograd and new ones were recorded. In Moscow, the guys recorded an updated song Take My Love, which later became one of the most popular in the history of Russian pop music.
Conquest of new peaks
During 1996-1998 the band recorded new songs, performed in Volgograd clubs. But very quickly it became clear that the guys were cramped in a small town. In early 1998, a new album called Prologue was released, with which the band ventured to go to Moscow. But in connection with the then situation in the country, it was possible to do this only at the beginning of 1999. At first, Bed Maxim worked as a sound engineer at the Europa Plus radio station.
Name change and success
In 1999, the guys met Dmitry Malikov, who became their producer for the next five years. He also initiated the changethe name of the team to a brighter and more memorable one, and he was right - the Plasma group became recognizable.
In December 2000, the duo's new album, Take My Love, was released, which literally blew up the Russian music market. The Plasma group has become very popular not only in its own country, but also far beyond its borders. The team toured in all countries of the near abroad. In the same year, the Plasma group, with the help of Philip Yankovsky, shot videos for two of their songs: The Sweetest Surrender and Take My Love.
At the end of 2001, the audience saw the third video for the song Lonely, and in the middle of 2002 the fourth - for the song You'll Never Meet an Angel. The video was directed by Oleg Gusev. According to his idea, the producer of the group Dmitry Malikov himself starred in the video as the “big boss”. The work turned out to be interesting and exciting, like a real action movie: with weapons, expensive cars and beautiful girls.
Modern "Plasma": the composition of the group
In 2003, guitarist Trofimov Nikolay, their good friend from the time of the Volgograd projects, joined the permanent members of the band, Bed Maxim and Chernitsyn Roman. Later, another musician joined the group - violinist Alexander Luchkov. The guys still perform in this line-up, they only call themselves the main (Maxim, Roman) and secondary (Nikolay, Alexander) part of the group.
Mysterious album "607"
In 2002, fans heard completely different songs of the Plasma group. An album called "607", the meaning of which no one ever found out, was released inend of 2002. It included serious, mature and very lyrical compositions, which once again confirmed that "Plasma" is a progressive group of the Russian pop scene, capable of successful experiments and reincarnations. Thanks to the album "607", the group was also known in France, Finland, the B altic states, where the guys went on tour.
Third album
After a short break, the band returned to their fans with a new collection of songs called Black and White. The Plasma group, whose music videos have always been exciting, and for the song One Life from the third album, were able to release a video clip with a deep and fascinating story. The story told about a sick girl lying in a glass cell isolated from the outside world. The doomed woman, with her last strength, hopes for a miracle, and it happens: Her Majesty Love appears in her life and saves her. The video was directed by Kevin Jackson.
Another composition from this album that deserves attention is Living in the Past. The song attracted foreign DJs, who created a large number of remixes for it.
Works of recent years
In 2007, together with Alena Vodonaeva, the guys from Plazma recorded their first Russian-language song, Paper Sky.
In 2009, the group tried to get to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Never Ending Story, but, unfortunately, they failed - another participant won the selection. In the same year, two of their new songs were released: The Real Song and Mystery (The Power Within). For the lastthe song was shot in 2010 video.
In the same year, 2010, the soloist of the Plasma group Roman Chernitsyn promised to please his fans with new works in the near future. And he kept his word - in 2011 their single Angel of Snow was released, and in 2013 another one - Black Leather Boys. In total, three albums, eighteen singles and eight video clips have been released in the entire history of the band's existence. Some might say that this is not so much, considering that the group has been around for over 20 years. But who among the representatives of modern Russian pop culture can compete with Plazma in terms of the quality of their work? Each of their songs is a hit, each album is a sensation, each video is an amazing and memorable sight. This is already a victory! In addition, the teams that have existed and actively developed in Russia for more than twenty years can be counted on the fingers. And Plasma is one of them. We will wait for new victories of our beloved team.
