The body of Sir Charles Baskerville was discovered in the park of his own estate. Despite the fact that everything spoke of a natural death caused by a progressive heart disease, Dr.what alerted me, namely the giant dog footprints near the lifeless body. The deceased himself was deeply convinced that there was a Hound of the Baskervilles - a creature of mystical origin that had haunted his family for several centuries. Sir Charles's opinion was shared by farmers from nearby lands, according to whom they themselves had often seen a dog burning with hellish light at night in the swamps.
Intrigued by the mystery, Holmes takes control of the case. The very next day he meets with the offspring of the deceased, Sir Henry. The new owner of the enchanted estate is on edge: he received an anonymous letter with threats and advice to stay away from the family nest. Nervously, Henry begins to drink heavily and believe deeply in the family tradition. Sherlock discovers a young baronet is being secretly followed in London.
Contrary to his custom, the detective refuses to personally visit the scene of the murder and delegates all authority to Dr. Watson, who is instructed to accompany Sir Henry everywhere and report on the situation regarding letters.
During the investigation, it is possible to establish that the Hound of the Baskervilles is nothing but a hoax behind the authorship of a neighbor Jack Stapleton, who is actually the nephew of the deceased baronet. Stapleton, having settled nearby under an assumed name, managed to ingratiate himself with the Baskervilles in order to take possession of the estate. Having bought a huge black dog, Stapleton smears it with a special luminous compound and secretly delivers the dog at night to Baskerville Hall.

Trying to escape from the police chase, Stapleton drowns in the Devonshire swamps. Holmes tries to save the life of the criminal, but fails.
