Alexander Grin has a very special reputation in Russian literature. His works consist of many original recognizable images. The writer's life was just as varied and amazing.
Childhood
Green Alexander was born in the Vyatka province in the city of Slobodskaya. He was half Pole by nationality. His father participated in an uprising against the tsarist authorities and was exiled to Siberia. Already there he was allowed to settle in Vyatka. Stefan Grinovsky, or Stepan in Russian, married a young nurse, Anna Lepkova.
Alexander was their first son. He was born in 1880. The child had a peculiar character. He constantly played pranks and at some point was expelled from the school. From childhood, he fell in love with reading, and his first reference book was the satirical story "Gulliver's Adventures". As you know, there were elements of fantasy in it, so it is not surprising that Green Alexander wrote in this genre in his adulthood. The pseudonym under which he became known in Russian literature was an abbreviated form of his father's surname. That's what his schoolmates called him.
Youth
Grown up Green Alexander decided to devote his life to adventure. At the age of 16 he went to Odessa. There he managed to find an old friend of his father, who gave him a job as a sailor on one of the ships. In his wanderings, the young man visited many countries, he even managed to end up in Egyptian Alexandria. The aesthetics of the sea has always attracted a young man. Later this will be reflected in his work. Nevertheless, the dull life of a sailor was not to his liking, and soon Green Alexander returned home for a year.
After taking a short break, the adventurer decided to try his luck in distant Baku. There he made a living in many of the most unexpected ways: he was a laborer, a fisherman, a foreman on the railway. Finding himself a little later in the Urals, he tried himself as a lumberjack and gold miner.
Revolutionary activity
At the age of 22, Green decided to join the army and there he became closely acquainted with the local Social Revolutionaries. Revolutionary ideas captivated the young man, and he himself began to promote many of the ideas of the party members. True, he was against terror, which in those years had a large scale. Many comrades noticed the speaker's talent and advised Green to try his hand at writing. However, he will heed this call a little later.
In the meantime, the young revolutionary was arrested in the Crimea for anti-government speeches. Green tried to escape from prison. When he was once again caught, a lengthy investigation began, which was stopped after the amnesty of 1905. Alexander was sent into exile in Siberia, from where he escaped on the very first day. This was the norm at the time. ATnative Vyatka Green received a passport in a false name and went with him to the capital.
Writing activity
The literary career that Alexander Grin aspired to begins in St. Petersburg. The biography of this person includes many pseudonyms. Then he signed with all sorts of initials. One way or another, a new face in the metropolitan bohemia becomes noticeable thanks to his talent in the genre of short stories. Author's collections are published. Green meets Leonid Andreev, Alexei Tolstoy, Mikhail Kuzmin, Valery Bryusov and other writers of the Silver Age.
A few years later, the police discovered that the popular writer was an escaped convict. Again the link that Alexander Grin did not want so much. The biography of the writer continued in the distant Pinega. His beloved Vera Abramova went there with him, with whom he soon got married.
Green lived in exile for two years, after which he returned to St. Petersburg in 1912. He spent the last years on the eve of the great war extremely productively, publishing romantic stories. Soon this name became known - Alexander Grin. The works were regularly published in popular publications. During these years he divorced his wife. When the war began, his works began to have a clear anti-militarist character, despite the then existing enthusiasm for the imminent victory over the Germans.
Because of this, the state protection authorities again drew attention to the writer. Green had to go into hiding in Finland. However, soon there was a revolution, and he returned to Russia.
Soviet years
At the general conscription, many were taken into the army. Alexander Grin faced the same thing. Interesting facts from life are overshadowed by typhus, which he fell ill with during his short service.
The writer was patronized by Maxim Gorky, who then had great influence throughout the country as a "petrel of the revolution." He got Green a room in the famous House of Arts, where many of his colleagues in the creative department lived. His neighbors were Osip Mandelstam, Nikolai Gumilyov, Vsevolod Rozhdestvensky and Veniamin Kaverin.
It was here that Greene wrote his most famous and striking work - the story "Scarlet Sails". He himself defined the genre of this thing as "fairy tale". Soon the writer's first novel, The Shining World, came out. With the fees, Green not only went on vacation to his favorite Crimean places, but also bought a new apartment in Leningrad.
Persecution and posthumous fate
However, external well-being ended along with the illusions about the young Soviet state. The NEP was curtailed, and rampant censorship began, problems arose with the publishing houses with which Alexander Grin collaborated. A short biography dryly informs the reader that party functionaries did not want to see the author's books on the shelves of libraries.
A flat in Leningrad was sold for debts. The ordeals that Alexander Grin faced began. A brief biography of the writer at that time is a need and a half-starved existence. At first, he tried to seek help from the Union, which he ledBitter, but the answer never came.
Eventually, the already elderly man's he alth began to deplete. Alexander Green died in 1932 at the age of 52. His works were allowed much later, already in the years of the Khrushchev thaw. True, before that, in the last Stalin years, he was also branded a cosmopolitan during the state propaganda campaign.
The second appearance of books before the Soviet reader was immediately marked by success. Many works were filmed or became the basis for productions in theaters.
