Leonid Minkovsky: biography

Nothing is known about Leonid's childhood and youth. The only thing the journalists managed to find out was that he was born into a Jewish family in Dnepropetrovsk. There he was educated as an architect.

In the marriage of Leonid and Irina, a daughter, Alena, appeared, which during the divorce became a stumbling block between the former spouses. Leonid Minkovsky sincerely believed that Irina's employment would not allow her to raise her daughter normally, so he made every effort to sue the right to educate Alena.

For example, police surveillance was established behind the house where Rodnina and her daughter lived. According to the laws of the United States, a child under 13 cannot be left alone without supervision, and Irina had to work.

But Leonid Minkovsky could not get his way, and Irina raised her daughter by herself. Alena studied in the city of Santa Cruz, located in Northern California. She became a journalist and, after coming of age, worked with her father on Russian-American projects.

Leonid is proud of his daughter, because she inherited from him the desire to work. For example, when she helped her father on the set of films, she had to combine the positions of an interpreter, costume designer and assistant. Father and daughter then worked 15 hours a day.

Working on Russian-American projects

Leonid Minkovsky is known as a producer of films created jointly by Russian and American specialists. He released his first film in 2005. It was the "Shadow Partner" tape. It tells about the love between a Russian girl and a CIA agent, which develops against the backdrop of the girl's attempts to release documents revealing a conspiracy at the top of the Russian and US authorities.

Despitean unusual plot and a good script, which was written by James D. Dec, who is also the director of this picture, the film failed at the box office. It was coldly received in America, where it was released immediately on DVD, and criticized in Russia.

After a short series "Film Festival" was released, consisting of 4 episodes. It was also produced by Minkovsky, but the shooting took place entirely in Russia. Despite a strong cast, the series went unnoticed. Even talented artists could not improve the situation by their participation in the project. The third picture "Abduction" was filmed again in collaboration with the Americans. The entire filming process took place in the Mosfilm pavilions. This film received good reviews from the audience, who described it as a picture that breaks the preconceived notions towards Russian cinema. Of the shortcomings, only the plot was too understandable for fans of thrillers and similar situations with "Saw" and other Hollywood thrillers.

The film was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award in three categories, but the award was not received. There were more failed films in 2007.

You and me

After an average, according to estimates, picture "Abduction" Leonid Minkovsky was lucky and he became the producer of the picture "You and Me", which was a great success. To create it, he continued to work with the famous director Roland Joffe.

The film "You and Me" was released in 2011. It is based on the novel "Ta Tu Kam Back" by the opposition State Duma deputy Alexei Mitrofanov, which he wrote in collaboration with Anastasia Moiseeva.
