Having lost her children, Annie falls into depression, the world ceased to exist for her, the colors faded, the dream house she painted became gray and gloomy, filled with pain and sorrow. Chris gives himself to work and attempts to return his beloved wife, to fill her life with new meaning. With great effort, he succeeds. Years pass, the life of the couple begins to improve. But fate is cruel. Annie is left alone again in a world full of despair and emptiness - saving people, Chris dies. He does not immediately understand what happened, and tries again and again to attract the attention of his wife, but realizing, he leaves attempts and leaves for the other world. Where can a bright and kind soul go, who, sacrificing herself, helps others? Of course, to heaven! Paradise of Chris is filled with the brightest, lively colors. It has the dream house that Annie once drew, it has beloved children, it has a riot of happiness, and even the dog that they once loved so much. He meets a friend, Dr. Albert, who becomes his guide and introduces him to others. Thanks to him, Nelson learns the essence of paradise - everyone arranges it the way he would like, surrounding him with his dreams, with what he loves and would always like to see next.

At the same time, in the reality that Chris left so suddenly, his beloved Annie suffers from loneliness and depression. Unable to bear the internal torment, she commits suicide and ends up in hell. Chris learns about what happened from Dr. Albert and decides to go into a world of pain, despair, fear and darkness in order to returnyour beloved. In a short time, he must not only have time to bring his wife out of despondency, but also not to fall into his shackles himself. Annie's condition is so bad that she does not immediately recognize her husband. But the great power of love that lives in Nelson's heart, at the very last moment, will be able to awaken, tear out a desperate soul from the darkness and lead it into a world where a daughter and son are waiting with excitement, a world built by their dreams. Time passes, and the lovers decide to start all over again. The film ends with a little boy and girl meeting, surprisingly reminiscent of how Chris and Annie met many, many years ago in some details.

There is no one who would remain indifferent after watching the film "What Dreams May Come". Reviews of film critics were divided, but film lovers almost unanimously give the highest marks not only to the plot and the skill of the actors.
