Literature is still taught in schools. Programs in other subjects have changed, new textbooks have been written even for mathematics, and only such a subject as literature is still being studied. In the students' notebooks, onegin's characterization, discussions about Famusov and Chatsky are still being written. Is there a need for a radical reform of the course of literature at school or not?

There are two opinions on this. On the one hand, this program has already been worked out. It begins with simple and easily read literary works, poetry is moderately affected, and prose is thoroughly affected. The works of Russian authors dominate foreign literature. Why is Onegin's characterization in a student's notebook bad?

It is by his example that you can see how a person lives, who is practically devoid of national roots! Brought up by a Frenchman, superficially educated (everyone would have such a superficial education), an egoist, in general, a cosmopolitan, a man of the world - this is a brief description of Onegin. And if a child understands this, nothing will stop him from reading further, switching to foreign classics.

On the other hand, modernLiterature is indeed poorly represented in the program. Works written in the 20th century are published only in children's reading books, but more serious books are almost never offered for reading in middle and high schools. Interest in literature among teenagers is already not great, and here is the obligatory characteristic of Onegin instead of the works of Selenger.

Indeed, if you look from this point of view, the literature programs need to be urgently reformed, and everything from the fifth grade to the eleventh. Otherwise, interest in the subject will dry up completely. Let the children read at least something than not read anything at all.

Students of the school, in general, are divided into three unequal groups:

  • Children reading. They are a minority, but they are and always will be. They are not afraid of Onegin's characterization, discussions about Tolstoy and Chekhov, they have already read and discussed all this with adults.
  • brief description of Onegin

  • Children who read little are not very willing, but when this process is stimulated, they are ready to start reading books appropriate for their age.
  • And finally, those who do not read and never will read. For such people, I would like to organize courses on teaching reading literary works. Unfortunately, these children are literally three-quarters of the class.

Thus, it is clear that changes in the program will attract a very limited contingent to the literature. But when changing topics in literature, the special national coloring, the orientation of the program, will be lost. How will it happentransmission of moral principles, if not through literary works? How will a child learn what is possible and what is unacceptable, what is good and what is bad, if not through literary works. After all, not every family regularly raises these important topics. And Onegin's characterization in this matter, by the way, is in the first place. Just like thinking about Natasha Rostova and understanding the works of Turgenev. In the meantime, disputes do not subside in the pedagogical community, the line appears again and again in student notebooks: “Characteristic: Eugene Onegin.”
