Oblomov's characteristic. Life or Existence?

The novel "Oblomov" by Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov was written during the period of serfdom, the society was rather motley - landowners and peasants, nobility and homelessness, nobles and commoners. Those who did not have to take care of their daily bread could lie in bed until noon. Ilya Ilyich Oblomov turned out to be such a lucky man, still a young man, thirty-two years old. The portrait characteristic of Oblomov will not be large at all: his face is pleasant, but his eyes are very calm, no sparks, no devils, this is thirty-two years old. The whole body is soft, pampered, the hands are white and plump.

Having received an estate from the deceased father and mother and more than three hundred serfs as an inheritance, Ilya Ilyich settled in St. Petersburg, in the very center, in a spacious apartment. I didn’t go to the estate, it was very far away, and I didn’t want to. All affairs in the remote estate began to be run by the headman. At first, everything went well, the income from the estate more than covered all the vital needs of the young landowner. But then the headman began to send letters with complaints about crop failures and other misfortunes. Every year there was less and less money. It would be clear to anyone that the manager is cunning, yeshe steals, but Oblomov believed nothing, only complained that the drought was drying up the wheat in his fields. Ilya Ilyich Oblomov lived in St. Petersburg for eight years, thinking about nothing, slept and dined, reluctantly got up from the sofa, dressed with the help of his servant, the elderly Zakhar, who over the years became one with the owner. Oblomov's characterization would be incomplete without a description of the old servant. He was a grouchy, slightly thieving and extremely stubborn man. He loved his master, but at the same time did not miss the opportunity to ruffle his nerves. And since old Zakhar was also a fair inventor, today, let’s say, he goes out to the gate and tells everyone that his master hasn’t slept for the third night, he’s always running to one widow, and he burns the other nights for cards, and he drinks how much, mind unfathomable.

And the next day, at the same gate, he assures everyone that his master doesn’t remember women at all for three years, everything lies and sleeps, even if he sat down in cards, but no. And what kind of a man is he, he doesn’t even want to see wine, let alone drink! Such was Zakhar. However, there was little harm from his fantasies, everyone knew the chatterbox himself, and what was with him. Oblomov himself doesn’t even lead with his ear, it’s all the same to him that “to the widow at night”, that “to lie down and sleep.” The second was just closer to the truth, Ilya Ilyich slept endlessly. He was perfectly he althy, if mother laziness is not considered a disease.

And Oblomov's characterization for himself appears unflattering. He was a lethargic, inactive person, did not like unnecessary anxiety. Although before moving to St. Petersburg he led the life of an ordinary young man, not alien to simple joys. But gradually Oblomov became lazy, and lost his taste for movement, he did not leave the house for years, his circle of friends was small. And he did not put his friends in a penny. As soon as they come, they all stir up, get up, they say, Ilya Ilyich, let's go there, let's go here. And if he gets out of bed, he will immediately lie back down.

Oblomov was not interested in anything, but his soul was open, and he was ready to borrow new impressions from life, which is why Oblomov's characterization wins somewhat. He was sleepy, yes, but not drowsy. And once, looking at the tree outside the window, I even experienced a shock, that's how the leaves live, bloom, and then fall off. And each leaf is a part of the tree's life, each is needed. So I am Oblomov, like a leaf, a part of life, it means that I need it. So he felt good from the realization of his need, he even cried from happiness. And just at that moment, Stolz was in the room, the only person to whom Oblomov was always reaching out.

This is surprising, since Stolz, a German by birth, was the direct opposite of Oblomov, he had a businesslike character, was engaged in near-state affairs, constantly traveled abroad with instructions from ministers, led a he althy lifestyle and slept some nonsense, five - six hours per day. And here you are, Stolz with suchof blatant restlessness was "a light in the window" for Ilya Ilyich. However, all Stolz's attempts to make Oblomov more active, to give him movement, successfully crashed against the sofa of Ilya Ilyich, already squeezed, but still strong. And here's what else Oblomov's characterization can be supplemented with - he was unyielding.

And yet one day Stolz pulled his friend into the light of day and took him to visit the Ilyinskys, his old acquaintances. To listen to the divine singing of Olga Sergeevna Ilyinskaya, the daughter of the owner of the house. Oblomov did not want any social events at all, and even more so home singing. But nevertheless, he listened to Olga's singing and disappeared, fell in love. Then everything turned out so that Olga fell in love with him. And he again began to invent something, and destroyed everything. Olga Sergeevna knocked, knocked on the closed doors of Oblomov's soul, and left. After some time, she became Stolz's wife.

And Oblomov, the difficult Ilya Ilyich, moved to the Vyborg Side and settled with a certain widow, who turned out to be a very sincere and affectionate woman. Ilya Ilyich and married her. He lived seven happy years and died overnight from a stroke, as the doctor predicted.
