Childhood and youth

Moskvin Ivan Mikhailovich was born on June 18, 1874. The future artist was born in the family of a watchmaker and an ordinary housewife. In addition to our hero, eight more children were brought up in a small house on Ilyinskaya Street. Of these, only the youngest son, named Michael, received a good education. Ivan was lucky to study at the City School, which he graduated in 1890. Then he had to immediately experience all the hardships of adulthood. In his youth, Ivan Moskvin served as an assistant in the trade organization of the merchant Kalashnikov, where he was actually an "errand boy." Then our hero worked as an order taker and cast iron weigher at a metal casting plant.

In his free time, Ivan Moskvin attended church services at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. The guy went here with his sister, each time breaking seventy miles on foot. Churchchants were to Ivan's liking. It was the impressions received from attending religious services that prompted the young man to think about becoming an artist.

In 1893, Ivan Moskvin was enrolled in the Music and Drama School. Here he studied in the class of the famous director of theatrical plays V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Having received a diploma, the aspiring artist began to take part in theatrical entreprises.

The beginning of the creative path

In 1896, at the final exams of the Music and Drama School, Ivan Moskvin, an actor, was asked by his mentor Nemirovich-Danchenko to play several roles that were opposite in content to his stage type. Oddly enough, our hero managed to successfully reveal the images of diametrically opposed characters in the plays "Nora", "Festive Dream Before Dinner" and "In the Old Years". Theater critics immediately started talking about Ivan as an extremely capable student of the great teacher Nemirovich-Danchenko.

In the spring of the same 1896, Moskvin received an offer to go to Tambov as part of a professional acting troupe. It was at the local venues that the first serious tests of Ivan Mikhailovich as a theater artist took place.

After successful debut performances, the young actor went to Yaroslavl, where he was in the troupe of Z. A. Malinovsky. Here, during one season, Moskvin played more than seventy roles. Local theater critics immediately began to predict a great future for Ivan.

Career development

Starting from 1897, Ivan Moskvin began to play in a fairly respected theater near Moscow in the town of Kuskovo. This place attracted our hero with its proximity to the capital. The following season, the young artist moved to the Korsh theater troupe, which was located in one of the buildings of Bogoslovsky Lane in Moscow.

In 1898, the actor reunited with his former mentor Nemirovich-Danchenko, who was just opening a new Art Theater. Moskvin soon announced himself as a mature, masterful artist, playing the main role in the production of Tsar Fedor Ioannovich. Subsequently, this image became a real hallmark of the actor.

In 1906, Ivan Mikhailovich went on tour abroad for the first time. Success came to the artist after the first performances. In the foreign press, two names were most often noted - the director of the plays, K. S. Stanislavsky and actor I. M. Moskvin. The audience from Berlin especially liked the acting of the actor. Local theatergoers immediately dubbed our hero a brilliant artist.

Movie debut

Ivan Moskvin appeared in Russian cinema in 1919. During this period, the famous theater artist was invited to the role of the main character named Polikey in the film "Polikushka", based on the story of the same name by the classic of Russian literature - Leo Tolstoy. Participation in the work on the creation of the tape once again glorified Ivan Mikhailovich. Subsequently, the film "Polikushka" acquired the status of the first Soviet film that received worldwide recognition.

The first wife of Ivan Mikhailovich was the actress Lyubov Geltser, who was the daughter of the famous Russian ballet dancer Vasily Fedorovich Geltser. However, soon the celebrities divorced, and Moskvin connected his life with his partner in the theater stage, Alla Tarasova. However, this union was not destined to last long. Tarasova left Ivan and married a high-ranking military man, Major General Pronin.

Subsequently, Moskvin decided to restore the union with his first wife Lyubov Geltser. The latter entered his house already with her son from a third-party marriage.
