The painter was born in Budapest in the family of activist and public figure E. I. Grabar and was named after his grandfather. By occupation, the family was forced to leave their hometown and move to Russia in 1876, when young Igor Emmanuilovich was only 5 years old.

Because of his father's activist life, the boy often had to be in the care of family friends, away from his parents. Perhaps this influenced the child, who from childhood gravitated towards drawing and in his spare time preferred the Tretyakov Gallery to peer society.

Education Grabar Igor Emmanuilovich received excellent. After graduating from the Moscow Lyceum, the young man enters the St.university and studies in parallel at two faculties: historical-philological and legal. The desire to master the brush prompts Igor Emmanuilovich to study at the art workshop of Ilya Repin, which he does during his student years. Love for creativity leads the future artist to the idea of continuing education, and he enters the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.

Inspiration

Like most other painters, Grabar Igor Emmanuilovich could not be without a source of inspiration. After graduating from the university, the future artist goes on a trip to Europe, where he was immensely impressed by eternal Rome, romantic Florence and Venice, strict Berlin and airy Paris.

The purity of the lines and the genuine enthusiasm of his predecessors captivate the young man, and he hurries to share his emotions with his canvas. Then he decides that he will continue to travel, comprehending the world and culture of Western civilization.

However, upon arrival at home, the master finds a new source of inspiration for himself, which will become the main theme of his work - the beauty of Russian nature. He is mesmerized by gracebirches, endless fields and genuine beauty of winter landscapes. All this is reflected in the new cycle of paintings: "White Winter", "March Snow" and the famous "February Blue". The last among them was written with special love and became a symbol of the Russian winter.

The picture of I. E. Grabar's "February Blue" was written on the street in a trench dug out of the snow, during a period when there was a severe frost. However, these inconveniences did not stop the master, who managed to realistically depict on canvas all the elements of nature that inspire him. The artist said that once he was lucky enough to look at the top of a snow-covered birch, and he could not hide his delight. It seemed as if the colors of the rainbow found a new interpretation and acquired a meaning never seen before. Then he truly realized that all these chimes of shades are born only thanks to the inimitable reflection of the sky. This idea was reflected in the title of the painting "February Blue".

This canvas at first glance does not differ much from its kind, but this opinion is erroneous. It is literally replete with a we alth of colors. The master managed to depict the depth of simple things by painting a February birch against the sky. Majority of color rendition and correctly placed compositional accents made this picture the quintessence of the artist's work.

Description of the picture

The picture of I. E. Grabar "February Blue"appears before the viewer in the form of a winter landscape, where against the background of an iridescent sky one can see a snow-covered birch in all its glory. It can be seen that the author wanted to convey the idea of the approaching spring, as the canvas exudes sunlight. Although the composition includes many birches, they all appear before the eyes as a single synergistic system, headed by one dominant tree, which has everything. All branches, like a circulatory system, are interconnected, it seems that all this is a single tree.

The azure sky shimmers and reflects in the illuminated snow, giving it a bluish-purple hue. On the snow under the trees there are traces of thawed patches, telling about the approach of spring. If you look closely at the birch branches, you will notice that their position resembles the sun's rays emanating from the trunks.

Work Mood

The picture of I. E. Grabar "February Blue" - one of the best creations of the artist. He wrote it in a special enthusiasm and managed to convey the mood of impending happiness. The richest palette of colors was used not to give color to the canvas, but to give the work an idea.

Looking at this work of art, I want to believe that tomorrow will not be a new day, but a new life that will be filled with the same bright colors. The snow in the picture is like a symbol of the passing day, followed by the spring future.

February Blue reproduction is a special moment for most novice artists who are eager to learn the craftnot only harmoniously apply oil on canvas, but also give people hope and happiness. And this is the main task of the activity of creative people. To assess the degree of importance of the canvas for the history of Russian art, it should be noted that Grabar, whose paintings in most cases broadcast winter landscapes, has become part of the school curriculum.
