Pavel Chukhrai was born in 1946. He was born in the village of Bykovo, Moscow Region. His father is the famous actor Grigory Chukhrai, who was nominated three times for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 1983, Pavel Chukhrai filmed the drama "Cage for Canaries", which was included in the program of the Cannes Film Festival. The film tells about the crisis of two teenagers.
