And this scandal lasted no less than fourteen years, until the death of Denisyeva. Elena and Tyutchev had three illegitimate children who, although formally bore the father's surname, did not have any civil rights associated with his origin. The poet's passion turned into dire consequences for Denisyeva: the hypocritical society ostracized her. Even her father disowned her. Elena's aunt was forced to leave the educational institution and move with her niece to an apartment.
