Let's start with the fact that the film "War Diver" actually has a completely different name. And this is clearly visible even to those who know English only superficially.
"Men of Honor" (this is the name of the film) is translated as "People of Honor". What was the aim of the translators by simplifying the already simple English so much, giving the film, in fact, a new name and changing the semantic load from the very beginning? Did they really consider that our people are so far from the concepts of conscience, sincerity, honor, humanity that they will not be able to realize the whole “complexity” of the expression “people of honor”, and therefore they simplified the name to “Military diver”? Let this question remain on the conscience of the translators, who, by the way, translated the film itself with distortions, albeit with small ones. However, they still did not manage to spoil the pleasure of viewing. A brilliant performance by a superbly selected cast makes you really immerse yourself in the events and experience the feelings of the characters.

The ambitious Karl refuses to plow the land like his father all his life and, having left home, decides to enlist in the Navy.
His dream is a military career. But does a black man dare to dream of such heights? His job is to carry loads, scrub the deck and cook in the galley. But Carl Brashear refuses to submit to this state of affairs, he declares his desire to become a professional diver, which already caused smirks from others: “Black diver?”
Two years of hard work, more than a hundred unanswered letters with a request to enroll in a school of submariners, humiliation and ridicule did not make Brashir give up his dream. Having finally achieved his goal, he also faces the same problems at school - ridicule and mockery. But Bill doesn't give up. After a while, his perseverance, courage and hard work make his white classmates treat Brashear with respect.
The new recruits are mentored by the old warrior and desperate truth-seeker Bill Sunday, played by Robert De Niro, who is interested in the young black talent. Particularly close attention fell on Brashira another heavy burden. But diligence and perseverance made it possible to reach the exams, which, in fact, were supposed to decide the future life of Karl. However, an unpleasant “surprise” awaited here too…
“War Diver” (“People of Honor”) is far from the worst representative of the military drama genre. itthe story of an outcast who conquers prejudice, realizing his dream in spite of all the spokes in the wheels. The story is inspiring and true. An excellent example of the triumphant victory of the will and fortitude of a person striving for a dream.
Probably, one could talk about some script flaws and one-dimensional characters, but not where De Niro and Gooding Jr. play. We must pay tribute - the underwater shooting turned out to be very interesting, keeping the viewer in suspense.
Should we trust movie reviews? Each review is a review of an ordinary person who has his own preferences, his own opinions. And not always his tastes coincide with yours. How deep the film is can only be judged after watching it.
