The operetta theater (Engels) was opened in the second half of the twentieth century. His repertoire today includes mainly Viennese classical operettas. There are also musicals for children's audiences. The theater is very popular in its city.

History

In 1968 Mr. Engels got its own musical comedy. The operetta theater was built by decision of the regional executive committee of the Saratov region. He was given the building where the House of Culture had previously been located. In August 1968, the theater began preparing its repertoire. The first performance of the musical comedy of the city of Engels was called "Let's get acquainted, dear fellow countrymen!". The troupe was assembled from young graduates of theatrical educational institutions. The post of chief director was then taken by G. Keller, an honored worker of arts. E. Neumann was appointed to the post of director. Over the years of its existence, the operetta theater (Engels) has staged more than a hundred performances. Of these, 54 performances were created for young viewers. The theater also demonstrated to the public 9 various concert programs. The troupe often tours the country and performs at the best stage venues in Murmansk,Moscow, Kaluga, Sevastopol, Volgograd, Ryazan, Novgorod, etc.

Today the theater is headed by Alexander Gornov. He bears the honorary title of Honored Worker of Culture. The main director of the theater is Dmitry Leontiev. Among the soloists there are actors who have been awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia. The chief choreographer of the theater is Vladimir Lomakin. He is a multiple laureate of international competitions. The success of the theater lies not only in a wonderful troupe. Plays a role and selection of repertoire. The theater attaches great importance to this issue. The basis of the repertoire consists of classical operetta. But the theater regularly searches for new musical dramaturgy. So, for the first time in our country, the performances “Golden Web”, “God's Dandelion”, “Glass Door” and “Favorite” were staged on the stage of musical comedy in the city of Engels.
