Early at the beginning of The Tourist, Elise receives a message from Pierce, in which he asks her to come to Venice, find a young man there who would be similar to him in terms of equipment, and pretend that this is him.

In Italy, Elise's gaze rests on American tourist Frank. The police do at first take him for Pierce, but then they find out that he is just a math teacher who recently lost his wife.

Elise does not stop, continuing to convince others that Frank is Alexander. She takes a man to a hotel, kisses him at an open window, and then disappears.

The fact that Frank is Pierce begins to think of a mobster who was robbed by Alexander. An American is hiding from the persecution of bandits and gets into the police. Law enforcement officers release him, but only to immediately hand over to the bandits. During this operation, Elise saves him.

An unexpected twist

At this point, it turns out that a fascinating film is even more complicated and confusing thanappeared at first sight. Elise is not just the mistress of a brilliant criminal, but an Mi-6 agent who works undercover. She is going to go to Russia to find Pierce there.

Elise continues to insist that Frank is an impostor, and everything he knows about Pierce, she told him herself. As a result, the lives of both hostages are endangered. They are rescued by Inspector Jones. Wanting to save his agent, he orders the snipers to shoot the bandits to kill.

Final

While examining the scene, Inspector Ackson and Jones receive word that Pierce has already been captured by another group of police officers. They go to interrogate him.

At the police station it turns out that the detainee is notAlexander, who is wanted by Interpol. He pretended to be a criminal for a large amount of money from a stranger who sent him detailed instructions in a text message.

At the same time, Elise confesses to Frank that she has fallen in love with him. However, she continues to love Alexander and does not know how to get out of this situation.

Suddenly, Frank declares that he made it all up. He defiantly enters the code for the safe, which was known only to Pierce. It turns out that all this time he was next to Elise under the guise of an American teacher.

The police officers who urgently returned to the apartment do not find the lovers. They blow up the safe, in which they find a check for the entire amount of the debt that Pierce owed to the treasury for his atrocities. Jones announces that the case is closed, although Aikson still feels cheated.

In the last shots of the film, Frank and Elise sail away together on a yacht.
