The British band Hurts (originally from Manchester) is a duo consisting of vocalist Hutchcraft and keyboardist, as well as guitarist Adam Anderson. They are quite famous for their artistic amazing videos of their own production. And some of the songs of these musicians are familiar to literally everyone.
First group
Created by Hurts, epic, dramatic pop music draws its inspiration from a mixture of influences and currents from contemporary and past music, including 70s kraut rock, 80s new wave and 90s R&B. After meeting in 2005, Hutchcraft and Anderson formed several bands, including Bureau and Daggers, who later went on to act under the Fandango label. In 2007, with their characteristic high energy electro-pop sound, the Daggers released the single Money/Magazine. However, Hutchcraft and Anderson were not happy, they did not like the direction taken by the group. A little later, they decided to close this project.
Creating Hurts
Later in the basement studio, the duo continued their musical activities, already calling themselves the name Hurts. The guys began to focus on a more streamlined, moody and emotionalsound, unlike "Daggers", this project was an opposition to pop music. The musicians initially worked via the Internet with Swedish producer Jonas Kvant. The Hurts recorded three opening songs: Wonderful Life, Evelyn and Unspoken. In June 2009, the Hurts created an amazing self-produced black and white video for Wonderful Life. They signed with RCA in July.
Musical activities of the band
In 2009 and 2010, the band's fans grew even more. This was facilitated by the release of several songs posted by the band on their MySpace page, as well as videos for Blood, Tears & Gold and Better Than Love. The song Wonderful Life, which was performed by the lead singer of the Hurts band, began to play constantly on radio channels.
Not engaging in live performances, the musicians have created their own collection of songs. And in 2010, Hurts gave their debut concert in Berlin. In the same year, the guys went on tour throughout Europe and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In March 2010, the single Better Than Love debuted at number 50 on the Kingdom Singles Chart. Also around this time, as if to celebrate how popular the band had become, the Hurts recorded the song Devotion, with backing vocals from pop superstar Kylie Minogue. Hurts then released the hit single Confide in Me at Minogue's studio for The Sun website.
Achievements, awards and collaborations
In August 2010, the Hurts team created their debut full-length compilation Happiness, which was released for the first time undernumber four on the UK Albums Chart. It sold over 25,000 albums in its first seven days, making it the band's best-selling compilation album in the United Kingdom in 2010. With the singles Better Than Love, Wonderful Life and Stay, the album was a huge hit across Europe and Hurts' popularity grew exponentially. Several awards followed in 2010, including from BBC's Sound, the musicians won the German Bambi award and received an MTV Europe Music Award nomination. Hurts received higher public support the following year after playing the Glastonbury Festival. The performance was well received and was even considered the best part of the festival. In addition, the band began their own initial European tour that same year, culminating in a show at the Brixton Academy in London with special guest Kylie Minogue.
In December 2012, ahead of their next album and in keeping with their tradition of releasing stylish, brand new videos, the Hurts released a promotional video for The Road, which was inspired by Cormac McCarthy's novel. In 2013 Hurts released their second album Exile. Through the work of Hutchcraft and Anderson in collaboration with Quant and Dan Grech Marguerat, Exile showcased a subtle, somewhat more modern sound that included more orchestral and rock music, but retained all of the Hurts' mainstream sounds. In 2015 Hurts released their personal third studio compilation of songs Surrender.
