Radio and TV presenter, businessman, economist, writer, Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov has become one of the most popular and well-known leading political programs on Russian television. His sharp topical programs “Duel”, “To the Barrier” were well remembered by viewers. But the journalist gained particular popularity after the broadcast of the program “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov.”
How did it all start?
By the beginning of 2005, the programs "Freedom of Speech", "The Other Day", "Personal Contribution" and "Red Arrow" were closed on the NTV channel. In fact, there is not a single analytical program left. For this reason, the channel's management decided to create a talk show capable of taking over the functions of programs that were previously closed. This idea belonged to Alexander Levin, who at that time served as the chief producer of the channel.
"Sunday Evening" with Solovyov first aired at the end of March2005. The program was attended by experts, viewers, as well as the main newsmakers of the week. It was not a pure political show. Social topics (xenophobia, the threat of bird flu, etc.), high-profile scandals in show business and sporting events became the reason for discussion in the studio.
After the ad block, a new program block began, dedicated to a separate topic, which was discussed with a different cast of participants. As a rule, up to three topics were considered in the program. Unlike past analytical projects of the Namedni and Itogi channels, the participation of journalists from the NTV Information Service was supposed to take part in Sunday Evening with Solovyov, the program was aired in a recording that was made the day before, on Saturday evening.
Who prepared the program?
"Sunday Evening" on NTV was prepared by the same editorial team that worked on another author's program by Vladimir Rudolfovich Solovyov - "To the Barrier!". The new show welcomed a strict dress code, the active participation of the audience and replicas from the audience. The most active guests of the studio could speak at the "free microphone".
The program "Sunday Evening" with Solovyov came out on Sundays at 22.00. It was preceded by a screen saver on the NTV channel clock face, which counted the last seconds before the start of the transmission. Previously, it was also used before the programs "The other day" and "Today".
Vladimir Rudolfovich Solovyov recalled that the program was created not so much as an analytical one, but as an author's one, which was very dear to him. In herSaakashvili and Bush, Gref and Kudrin spoke. Michel Legrand took part in the last block of the program, which aired at the end of 2006.
Project close
"Sunday Evening" with Solovyov on the NTV channel was closed in the summer of 2008, as having fulfilled its tasks in the pre-election year, on the eve of the parliamentary and presidential elections. Until April 2009, the presenter still remained on the staff of the channel. He hosted the To the Barrier! program, which was closed in May 2009. The exact reason for the closure of the program of Vladimir Solovyov and his dismissal is unknown, but the presenter suggests that this is due to his statements on the radio.
Sunday Talk Show Returns
The popular talk show was remembered four years after its closure. By that time, the host and author of "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" was already working at the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, where he was doing a new talk show - "Duel". At the beginning of September 2012, the premiere of the program on the Russia-1 channel took place, which was called "Opening of the New Political Season", but already on September 16 it came out under its permanent name, which it still bears today - "Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov".
On the second federal channel, the program began to come out at a later time and had an extended timing. In the program, as before, they began to discuss 3-4 topics. The line-up changed after the commercials.
Events in Ukraine
After the beginning of the tragic events in Ukraine (Crimean crisis and Euromaidan), since the beginning of 2014, inweekdays, the number of episodes of the program began to increase. Usually they began to go on the air after 21.00. At this time, Russian TV series were shown on the screens earlier.
Olympics
During the Olympics in Sochi, a program was aired in the evening, in which, as expected, the results of the previous day at the Olympics were to be discussed. However, most often, due to the prevailing circumstances, the events in Ukraine were discussed in this program.
Special Editions
From the beginning of March to the end of July 2014, due to the increased international tension that was associated with the events in the Donbass and Crimea, special editions of "Sunday Evening" were aired at 21.00 on Fridays. Since September 22, 2014, the programs “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” have been aired almost daily (depending on ongoing international events). Initially they aired at 21.00, then they were broadcast after 23.00.
The very first issue of this kind was dedicated to the opposition "Peace March". Opposition politician Vladimir Ryzhkov took part in the program.
