In the autumn of 1830, to arrange financial affairs before the marriage of A. S. Pushkin goes to the estate of his father Boldino in the Nizhny Novgorod province. The trip was supposed to be short, but the cholera epidemic that swept through part of Russia delayed the poet in the village for a long three months. Forced seclusion aroused inspiration, and the months in solitude became extremely fruitful for the poet. Boldin autumn - this is how this period in Pushkin's creative life will be called. One of the masterpieces created by the poet these days is Belkin's Tales, a cycle of short prose works allegedly told to the author by a retired lieutenant. These stories are very different in content and mood, but they are united by close attention to the personality of an ordinary person, a deep philosophical look at life events and experiences associated with them, sometimes leading to fatal twists of fate. The story "The Young Lady-Peasant Woman" by Pushkin is one of this cycle. This light, very elegant work stands out from the general system with its sparkling vaudeville. However, the events told in it are no less fatal for the main characters.
A. S. Pushkin "The Young Lady-Peasant Woman". Story content
In brief, the plot of this work can be described as follows. The young lady Lisa, having learned that her son Alexei from St. Petersburg came to a neighbor on the estate, wants to get to know him. But how to do this, because their landlord fathers are in a long-standing irreconcilable quarrel? Then Lisa, on the advice of her resourceful maid, dresses up as a peasant woman Akulina and early in the morning goes to pick mushrooms in a nearby forest, where she meets Alexei. Struck by the beauty, intelligence and unusual behavior of an imaginary peasant woman, Alexei falls in love with a girl, she also reciprocates.
A chance on the hunt in the most unexpected way reconciles the fathers of young people, landowners Muromsky and Berestov. Grigory Ivanovich Muromsky, Lisa's father, invites his neighbors to dinner, where Lizaveta Grigorievna is to be officially introduced to the father and son Berestov. The girl is in disarray, afraid that Alexei will recognize her, she continues the masquerade, this time dressed in a whitewashed, powdered, undressed and prim “doll”. The effect is achieved by involuntarily comparing the two girls, Alexei falls even more in love with the sweet, simple and so natural Akulina, “turning his gaze away” from Elizaveta Grigoryevna.
Meanwhile fathers-the landowners, wishing not only to prolong their pleasant acquaintance, but also to intermarry, want to marry their children. Alexei is in despair, he decides, against the wishes of his father, to offer his hand and heart to Akulina, having lost his inheritance and ties with his entourage. To explain himself to Lizaveta Muromskaya, he comes to her and, finding the girl without makeup, recognizes in her his beloved Akulina. There comes a happy ending to the story.
What is the special charm and attraction of this small work written by A. S. Pushkin? “The Young Lady-Peasant Woman”, whose main characters are Liza Muromskaya and Alexei Berestov, attracts with a description of very lively images, simple, sincere feelings and direct views on life. Liza and Aleksey are ready to overcome the prejudices inherent in their surroundings for the sake of personal happiness and love.
The story "The Young Lady-Peasant Woman" by Pushkin is written in the traditional romantic style. Its composition is reminiscent of common plots of love novels and short stories of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. However, Pushkin's Young Lady-Peasant Woman, in its artistic merits, undoubtedly differs from similar analogues. Her characters are very "lively" and charming and, despite the romantic "lining", are very realistic, and their feelings are described with such inimitable depth and charm. The slightly fantastic plot of Pushkin's The Young Lady-Peasant Woman makes the reader think about the oddities of human destiny. And it's nice if all the intricacies and "games" end well, but it can be completely different.
