History of the theater

The Zhenovach Theater was born after the graduation works festival in GITIS. Graduates of the Workshop of S. Zhenovach presented their work. After the festival ended, Sergey and his recent students announced that they would stay together and create a theater group. Initially, they planned to play only their graduation performances and perform at various Moscow venues.

But soon the repertoire expanded, and in 2008 STI acquired its own building. The Zhenovach Theater mainly specializes in little-known and previously unstaged productions or those that are rarely staged in our country. Although there are well-known classics included in the repertoire of many bands.

Theatrical Art Studio (STI) of Sergey Zhenovach was nominated 16 times and became a 7-timelaureate of the Golden Mask award.

Building

The Zhenovach Theater has settled in a historic building. In the 19th century, there was a factory of the Alekseev family here. She was famous all over the country. Christmas decorations, church decorations and gold embroidery yarn were produced here.

At the end of the 19th century, K. Alekseev, known by the surname Stanislavsky, headed the factory. Few people know that Konstantin Sergeevich was also an engineer. He studied the design of machine tools and various gilding technologies. He liked technology. At the initiative of K. Stanislavsky, a reading room was opened at the factory, a choir was created so that the workers would join the culture.

In 1895, Konstantin Sergeevich opened a theater at his enterprise. The actors were workers. They rehearsed and participated in productions in their spare time.

In 1903, K. Stanislavsky bought a plot of land adjacent to the factory and decided to build a separate theater building on it. It was planned to show performances, concerts and arrange readings here.

The stage was big and the auditorium could seat 250 people.

During the revolution, the government demanded that K. Stanislavsky give the theater building for additional workshops for the factory, which now began to produce cables and wires. Konstantin Sergeevich was forced to agree, but set his condition that his workers, who played in performances, be given work at the Moscow Art Theater.

Sergey Zhenovach's theater art studio settled in the building of the Stanislavsky Theater in 2008year. Before that, the building was subjected to reconstruction, which lasted 2 years. The first performance that the young troupe gave within these walls was "The Seedy Family" based on the work of Nikolai Leskov. The dimensions of the stage remained almost the same as they were under Konstantin Sergeevich. But the auditorium has become a little smaller. Now it can only accommodate 230 people. A large portrait of K. Stanislavsky hangs at the service entrance, and images of his family members hang in the lobby.

During the reconstruction of the building, the maximum amount of effort was made to preserve everything as it was under K. S. Stanislavsky. The brick remained the same, the ceiling arches remained, the ventilation system and copper wiring outside the walls remained intact. The chairs in the auditorium are made in the image and likeness of the old Moscow Art Theater, which adorned its branch in the 30s of the 20th century. The seats are soft and comfortable.

Sergey Zhenovach really wanted to create an atmosphere of home comfort in his theater. For this, a buffet and a large table were placed in the foyer. Before performances, the audience is treated to tea, homemade jam, ice cream and even jacket potatoes. There is a bookcase where you can take something to read. And in the "authors' corner" there are portraits of writers whose works are staged in the theatre.

Reviews

The Zhenovach Theater, despite its youth, is very popular with the audience. Their rave reviews confirm this. From watching the performances of this theater, the audience every time remains under great impression. The actors working here are wonderful - talented, loving their profession. The scenery is quite laconic, but very interesting at the same time. The performances here are complex, multifaceted, and thought-provoking. Many viewers fall in love with this theater from the first visit and become its loyal fans.

Another plus of the theater is affordable ticket prices.

But there are also those viewers who believe that this theater is ambiguous, for an amateur, not everyone and far from everyone will understand and like it. For some, the performances seem uninteresting.
