Prologue is (in literature) an introductory section that "opens" a work of any style. It can appear in fiction, in various technical books, and in large articles with a political or social focus. The prologue is not an obligatory part of every work. Nevertheless, it greatly helps the reader to get acquainted with the meaning of what he is going to start.
Prologue is, in other words, a retelling of the entire work, an initiation of the reader into some of its details and events. Often in the introductory part there is a short story about the heroes of the book, about their features and character traits. The author can, to one degree or another, reveal their spiritual qualities or tell about what happened to this or that person earlier, that is, before he "got into the book." Such a technique well helps to understand the writer's intention in brighter colors, as well as to feel the atmosphere that the pages of a particular literary masterpiece are fraught with.
Journalists, reporters and philosophers also often use prologue in their writings. Chernyshevsky, a master of utopian judgments about the world and our being, could not start writing a single work without first presenting it to the reader in the form of a brief description. Many also claimed that without reading the preamble, they could not comprehend the meaning of what this thinker wrote.
Prologue is an intrigue that an author can create in order to collect as many readers as possible from the pages of his book. There may not be a fully described storyline or an incomplete description of a particular character. This technique allows you to lure a person, thereby "tying" him to the book. Such a trick is an integral part of modern articles, mainly on political topics. If the material presented is large, then the prologue is a few pages that can be posted on the Internet or printed in a brochure. In the case when the article is small, its author can perfectly manage with a catchy description that will take a paragraph or two.
This literary term has many variations and varieties. It is mainly worth noting that in most fiction books (mostly published in the Soviet era), the first section is precisely the “Foreword”. This chapter is too generalized and does not clearly define what the subsequent story will be, which is largely different from what the prologue usually describes. This is a kind of introduction, which most often makes it clear the style of presentationwriter.
Introductory part is present not only in literary works. Often the prologue is the first part of a choral performance, opera or ballet, dance, monologue, and so on. However, in this case, this term does not lose its qualities and is still an introductory stage for each viewer. It can fully reveal the meaning of the play or create intrigue - it all depends on the intention of the author or director.
