One of the most popular and beloved among residents and guests of Moscow is the Pushkin Theater. Magnificent acting, stunning scenery and a large selection of performances await all visitors. More information about the Pushkin Theater in Moscow will be discussed in this article.
A bit of history
The first mention of the building dates back to the middle of the 18th century. Its owners were a lot of famous noble families: the Vyrubovs, the Dmitriev-Mamonovs and others. In 1914, the building was purchased by aspiring director AlexanderTairov, and decided to create here one of the best theaters in Moscow. For this, the building needed to be slightly altered. In May, large-scale construction began on the project of the architect N. Morozov. The theater was called Chamber, the premiere of the first performance took place on December 12. The famous ancient Indian drama "Sakuntala" was shown to the audience.
Despite all the difficulties (the ministers of the nearby church of St. John the Evangelist were against this institution being located next to the temple), the Chamber Theater worked for the audience.
In 1949, the institution was decided to close. In 1950 it was opened again, although it was already called the Pushkin Theater in Moscow. The new director added many details to its interior decoration (the coat of arms of the USSR above the stage in the main hall, which is still here, a massive gilded chandelier, etc.), leaving the facade unchanged. The first performance of the newly opened theater took place in the fall of 1950. The audience saw Sh. Dadiani's play "From the spark".
