Beautiful and attractive

It is believed that the Tretyakov Gallery is the main attraction of Lavrushinsky Lane. From the outside, you can’t tell from the building that it hides such a rich collection of unique works of art. The gallery is open in a rather low building, lined with colorful bricks. Beautiful prismatic glazed roof. Her story began in 1856 with the purchase of Schilder's The Temptation. Soon Tretyakov bought another picture, and the beginning became official. Until his death, the patron collected works of art. Contemporaries characterized him as an energetic and tireless, stubborn and stubborn person who appreciated the trends of Russian art, of which he managed to become a contemporary. Today, art critics say that in that era the foundation of the art school of our country was laid.

The nineteenth century, as experts admit, was filled with a variety of artistic talents. Each new master of the brush created even more original than the previous one. It was then that numerous strong and beautiful works were created. The notorious Russian spirit found expression throughnumerous paintings showing the unique features of the life of the hinterland of the patronymic. Impressed by this magnificence, Pavel Tretyakov attracted his brother Sergei to the collection. Together they built that unique Tretyakov Gallery, where everyone can visit excursions today. Two decades after the construction of the object, the brothers presented it as a gift to the city, thereby contributing to the formation of a wide layer of cultural and educational institutions in the capital. Their contribution to the prosperity of the state cannot be overestimated to this day.

Will and collecting for the benefit of the people

According to official information about the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, in Lavrushinsky Lane, only the creator of the unique collection has invested more than 1.5 million rubles in it. From year to year, the value of the exposition only increases, as the gallery regularly acquires new valuable exhibits. In the last century, a new facade of the building was made, and the object took on a resemblance to a classical tower, decorated with peaked roofs and tiles with a multi-color pattern. The main kokoshnik is decorated with the ancient coat of arms of the settlement - the Victorious, who defeated the snake. The reconstruction and decoration of the facade were carried out taking into account the sketches created by Vasnetsov.

Today, the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, in Lavrushinsky Lane, is accessible to everyone and anyone, anyone can visit it, be it a citizen of our state or a foreign guest. The object belongs to the state, but this was not always the case. Decree onnationalizations were drawn up and put into effect in 1918, it was then that the property of the city turned into the property of the country. 1926 made it possible to enrich the collection with paintings kept in the Rumyantsev Museum in private galleries. The Tretyakov Gallery received unique cultural objects created in the period of 11-17 centuries. World War II forced the evacuation of the most valuable samples to the rear, but already in the days of victory in May 45, the doors of the gallery reopened for art lovers.

It was interesting

On March 7, 2018, an exhibition of Vereshchagin opened at the Tretyakov Gallery, which lasted until July 15 according to the program. This unique event allowed all residents of the city and guests who found themselves in the capital region during the specified period to personally get acquainted with the creations of the great national artist.

You can consider his work in more detail, because Vasily Vereshchagin definitely deserves it. Born in 1842 in Cherepovets, who died in Port Arthur in 1904, Vereshchagin was the most famous Russian battle painter. Outside of life as an artist, he was also a traveler, and also made a good military career. However, he gained worldwide fame because of his unique paintings. For Vereshchagin, there was no sense in works in which the idea would not be clearly traced. He participated in three wars, but deep down he was a pacifist, which his paintings reflected.

Vereshchagin's canvases demonstrate the inhumanity of hostilities. Beautiful and valuable are the exotic landscapes that came out from under his pen, as well as other works created under the impressions of traveling to different parts of the world.

The reviews written about the exhibition of Vereshchagin's paintings at the Tretyakov Gallery prove that all the people who managed to attend the event were deeply impressed by what they saw. Art historians believe that the author created such impressive and expressive works due to a difficult fate. He was born in the iron industry, where nails were forged for the entire empire. By the way, their impressive volumes were then delivered to Britain, and the whole of Europe appreciated Cherepovets steel products. This affected the personality of the artist, who from childhood was accustomed to hearing the sound of hammers near the cliff, on which the family estate rose. As contemporaries admitted, Vereshchagin himself seemed to have been forged in these parts, he possessed such a strong character and strong nerves. A smart, progressive, resilient man has struggled with difficulties all his life and won them.

Despite his distaste for violence, he took part in the largest military action of his century. Surprisingly, the paintings he painted became the reason for declaring this faithful and devoted patriot a provocateur. Moreover, he was even called an enemy of the state.

How it all began

We would never have been able to see the magnificent paintings presented at the Vereshchagin exhibition in the Tretyakov Gallery, if the author's life had not developed exactly the way it was. At the age of three, Vasily settled with his whole family in Petrovka, which was in the possession of his father. A local leader, Vereshchagin received income from his cousin, sold the forest, providing for himself and his familydecent but boring everyday life. At first, the son was also a homebody, he thought in a bourgeois way, as he himself admitted. However, the Tatar roots of the mother soon showed up - a smart and educated lady, an incredibly beautiful owner of a pronounced character.

Vereshchagin's exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery demonstrated to all those who had not seen the unique paintings of this author before that the artist naturally possessed remarkable talents. For the first time, the ability to draw appeared in him as a child, but only his father did not approve of such a tendency at all. The military career carried the greatest prestige to the nobility of that time, and children were traditionally given to sailors. That is how Vereshchagin ended up first at sea, then - a participant in a military conflict. He got the opportunity to see and experience a lot, and all this was reflected in the splendor of his work, which impresses not only him, but also our contemporaries.

Not only an event, but also a place: back to the Gallery

The living conditions described above are just one of many stories of great artists who created a unique cultural layer of our fatherland. You can get acquainted with their creations by going to the Russian treasury - the Tretyakov Gallery, whose exhibitions, regularly updated, allow you to see with your own eyes the masterpieces of different times and eras. If you are going to visit this center of art, you should familiarize yourself with its amazing history in advance. The Tretyakov Gallery has experienced a lot during its existence, which was largely due to the instability of the social situation, wars and revolutions, throughthat had to go through. The gallery staff selflessly protected unique works of art, and it is thanks to their feat, and sometimes to the risk of their lives, that we can see today a unique collection of works.

The first version of the gallery known to the whole world today was presented to the attention of the public in 1867. It was then that the city gallery, named after the Tretyakov brothers, opened its doors, which was donated to the capital in 1892. The following year, it was decided to make a museum in the house of the former owners, calling galleries named after him. 1902-1904 were marked by the creation of numerous extensions and the formation of a new facade, for which not only Vasnetsov was involved, but also the most famous architect of his time, Bashkirov. The modern guest of the institution should remember: by purchasing a ticket to the Tretyakov Gallery, thereby a person gets the opportunity to get to know not only the unique content of the cultural center, but also get closer to the historical building, which in itself is a work of art: work on it brought together several famous creators.

Official decision

The recently held Vereshchagin exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery echoes the most important milestones in the development of the institution as an art center. The fact is that it was the purchase of sketches, paintings by this author, related to his impressions of Turkestan, that became the reason for the final decision: there should be a specialized gallery, and it should have a unique building reserved only for it. Construction work began in 1872, and two years later in the springopened a two-story building with several halls - today they are known under the numbers 8, 46-48. They were the first to fill with pictures. The building was designed by Kaminsky, Tretyakov's son-in-law. The first gallery was connected to the main residential building of the estate, equipped with an additional exit for guests. The collection grew rapidly, in the late 80s there were already 14 halls, and the gallery surrounded the residential building from three sides, reaching Tolmachevsky Lane.

As soon as a separate gallery was erected, the Tretyakov collection received a unique museum status. The meeting remained private, but had a public character. At first, there was no need to buy tickets: the Tretyakov Gallery was open and free for everyone. All those interested were invited, the presence of a title, a clan did not play a role. And in 1892 it was decided to donate the object to the capital.

Official Development

When the gallery came into the possession of the city authorities, it was decided to appoint the former owner as a trustee, granting him such a right throughout his life. Tretyakov personally chose which new works to include in the collection, and made purchases with funds received from the city authorities, as well as with his own savings. According to reviews, the Tretyakov Gallery in our time is exceptionally impressive for everyone who happened to get into it, and this is largely the merit of those who worked on the formation of expositions back in those days at the dawn of existence. Acquisitions made by Tretyakov as a trustee at his own expense were immediately given as a giftthe institution, in addition, the premises were constantly expanded, due to which the gallery became more and more famous. In the last decade of the nineteenth century, 14 halls were replenished with eight more.

In 1898 Tretyakov died, and the management of the institution was transferred to the board of trustees. The right to choose its participants remained with the City Council. At different times, well-known and prominent artists, experienced collectors were members of the council. Modern reviews of the Tretyakov Gallery are so full of admiration also because of the efforts they have made. Serov, Tsvetkov and Grabar were among the trustees. About 15 years after his death, which marked the beginning of the collection of paintings by Tretyakov, his daughter Alexandra Botkina was a regular participant and trustee of the gallery.

Development and expansion

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Tretyakov estate was no longer a residential area, so they decided to rebuild the building in order to use it for a gallery. As can be seen from the reviews of the Tretyakov Gallery, many people like the interiors of the first hall, as well as rooms from the third to the seventh - they are all organized from the family's former living rooms. Also, from the original estate, the modern object received vestibules. During the first four years of the new century, work was carried out to unite the objects in Lavrushinsky Lane with a single facade. Vasnetsov became the author of the project. The façade is considered to be a valuable piece of art in its own right, giving the alley an exceptional originality due to its non-standard architectural solution. And today, despite the abundance of cultural and art institutions in the capital, the gallery remains original, unusual - you can't confuse it with anything.

Story features

1892 was marked by the sudden death of Sergei Tretyakov, whose will contained an indication of the addition of his paintings to his brother's collection. The document also indicated the rules for the division of real estate, namely the house that the family decided to donate to the city. Sergei indicated in his will that his share should be transferred to the Duma under conditions similar to those that the elder brother would designate at the moment when he decided to transfer. It was not possible to fulfill this will while the gallery was owned by Pavel.

Numerous reviews of the Tretyakov Gallery are filled with the delight of visitors who have become acquainted with such a wonderful collection of works. It's scary to even imagine that it might not exist if not for the will of several patrons and collectors! It is known from history that shortly after the death of his younger brother, Pavel Tretyakov drew up an appeal to the Moscow Duma, where he indicated his will: to transfer the collection to the settlement along with a private house. In honor of the event, various festive events were organized, but the trustee did not want to take part in them and went abroad, where letters and telegrams were sent. Russian society showed special attention to Tretyakov, and in 1893 it was decided to allocate 5,000 rubles to Pavel personally for the purchase of new works. In August of the same year, the gallery was opened to the public - before that, the institution had been closed for two years due tofrequent thefts.

Should I go?

As can be seen from the above, the feedback on visiting the gallery is positive for everyone without exception. Indeed, today there is a huge variety of world-famous works here, acquaintance with which allows you to expand your own horizons. Others wonder what are the reviews about the Tretyakov Gallery of Children. Parents often go here with their children, but they are not always happy with their pastime. A child who is too young will be bored. But a schoolboy, teenager, student should definitely visit the institution, as soon as the opportunity arises.

All visitors get acquainted with the history of Russian art, which makes a strong impression, especially on those who previously knew little about it.
