Biography
Richard Samuel Attenborough was born on August 29, 1923 in the English city of Cambridge. His father, Frederick Attenborough, was an academic. The actor's family was one of those who, even before the start of World War II, participated in the Kindertransport operation to save Jewish children. The Attenborough family adopted two girls, nine-year-old Helga and eleven-year-old Irena Bezhach.
Richard Attenborough studied at the same Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, which he headed many years later. In the winter of 1945, the actor married the English actress Sheila Sim.
In 1967 he was appointed Commander of the Order at the time of the British Empire,and less than ten years later he received a knighthood. In 1993 he was awarded the title of baron. From 1979 to this moment he did not act in films.
Besides this, Richard Attenborough was vice-president of the English professional football club Chelsea.
In 2004, Richard suffered great grief - during the Thai tsunami, his daughter Jane died with her daughter and mother-in-law.
The last years of his life, the actor was forced to move in a wheelchair due to a stroke. In the spring of 2013, he was transferred to a nursing home due to deteriorating he alth. The actor died on August 24, 2014. He did not live a week before his birthday.

For his film "Gandhi", directed by Richard Attenborough, he received three awards in 1983: two "Oscars" in the nominations "Best Actor" and "Best Film", as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Director.
