The poem "The Death of a Poet" by Lermontov is a tribute to the genius of the great Russian poet - Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. Mikhail Yuryevich always admired the talent of his contemporary, took an example from him. For this reason, he was shocked to the core by the news of Pushkin's death. Lermontov was the first to express his protest to society, the authorities and truthfully described the events of that time. He does not understand what such a sincere, open and talented person as Alexander Sergeevich can do in a company of stupid, greedy people who only envied him and ridiculed him behind his back.
From the first lines of Lermontov's poem "The Death of a Poet" it becomes clear that the author blames not the duelist Dantes himself for the death of a person, but the whole society. Mikhail Yuryevich was well aware that in the last years of his life Pushkin was ridiculed, he was treated like a court jester. The poet suffered alone from misunderstanding, but could not do anything.
Lermontov considers the fact that a man who despised Russian culture and traditions raised his hand against the great Russian genius as a mockery of fate. But not only Dantes is to blame for what happened, the environment, which did everything to inflame passions to the limit and kindle hatred of two men for each other, should have understood that they were endangering the life of a person who enriched the treasury of Russian culture. After Pushkin's death, many people who despised him put on a mask of universal sorrow, and this fact is considered by M. Lermontov to be a manifestation of excessive hypocrisy.
"Death of a Poet" consists of two parts. The beginning of the poem is an elegy, the second part is clearly a satire. At first, Mikhail Yuryevich simply talks about the events that have taken place and blames the people responsible for the death of a talented person. Then he rebuffs those who dared to justify the murderers of Pushkin. The poem “The Death of a Poet” by Lermontov is an appeal to the insensitive descendants of rich and influential parents, the so-called “golden youth”. He is sure that sooner or later they will get what they deserve.
Michael Lermontov has no doubts that the truth cannot be found on this earth. "The Death of a Poet" is a challenge to an arrogant society, accustomed to solving all its problems and making its way with the sound of coins. But there is still the incorruptible judgment of God, and that's where everyone who is guilty of Pushkin's death will receive what they deserve. The author of the poem is sure that murderers will never be able to wash away the righteous blood of a great man with their useless blood.
Lermontov's "death of a poet" is a fair accusation of Pushkin's entire entourage, which failed to support him, but only trampled him into the dirt. Mikhail Yuryevich is in many ways similar to his idol, he was also not understood by his contemporaries. He, just like Alexander Sergeevich, died in a duel. But it was by no means a bullet that caused the death of both geniuses, they were killed by indifference, contempt, frank misunderstanding, envy of society. Both Pushkin and Lermontov understood that they could not live in a world where poets were equated with court jesters, perhaps that is why they passed away so early.
