Many of us grew up with characters from J. K. Rowling's books, including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. However, some characters are still a big mystery to us. One of these mysteries is Moaning Myrtle. She lives in the women's room at Hogwarts, and for most of us, that's all we know about her. He is a stocky ghost with thin hair, pimples, and wears thick glasses. She rarely smiles, and if, for the slightest reason, she is offended, she immediately begins to cry like a river and yell at the top of her voice.
The truth is that Myrtle is actually much more interesting, her ghost hides a rich past, and she certainly deserves her place in the book and films. She not only helped Harry find the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets, but also prompted him to dip the Golden Egg into the water.
Who played Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter? What is the secret of her death? You will find answers to these and other questions in this article.
1. A young Hogwarts student is played by an adult actress
Crybaby Myrtle in Harry Potter was played by British actress Shirley Henderson. She became the only adult actress to play the role of a young Hogwarts student. When she first played Moaning Myrtle in the second Harry Potter film, The Chamber of Secrets, the actress was 37 years old. And when Henderson returned to this role in "Goblet of Fire", she was already 40. Now the actress is 51 years old, and she has successfully acted in various TV series and films, such as "Trainspotting 2" and "Mud".
2. What is Myrtle's blood purity?
Myrtle was born around late 1928/early 1929. The girl's parents were not wizards, which makes her a Muggle-born. When the girl entered Hogwarts, the Hat assigned her to the faculty of Ravenclaw. She studied at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for only three years, from 1940 to 1943, until she was murdered in the ladies' room. She was only 14 years old.
3. Killing Myrtle led to the creation of the first Horcrux
Myrtle's death was no accident. The girl became the target of Tom Riddle due to the fact that she was a Muggle-born witch. Tom Riddle ordered the Basilisk to kill her, as he was the true heir of Slytherin. After Tom killed Myrtle, he split his soul and created his first Horcrux - the diary of Tom Marvolo Riddle, which Lucius Malfoy later planted in Ginny Weasley's textbooks. Harry Potter destroyed this Horcrux with a Basilisk fang in the second book in the series.
4. She comforted Draco
When, becominga death eater, Draco Malfoy felt a lot of pressure, he told Myrtle that he was chosen to kill Professor Albus Dumbledore, and how much it scared him. The girl's ghost reassured Draco because she understood him even though her situation was very different.
5. After her death, she pursued those who mocked her
After entering Hogwarts, the girl could not find friends, she was constantly bullied and teased because of her appearance. One such bully was Hogwarts student Olivia Hornby, who constantly teased Myrtle about her glasses. The day Myrtle died, Olivia brought her to tears in the women's room. After her death, Myrtle began to haunt Olivia every day until she filed a complaint with the Ministry of Magic. The Ministry has banned Myrtle from leaving the walls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
6. We learned her last name in 2015
Myrtle's last name was unknown until 2015, when a fan asked Rowling on Twitter. The writer replied that Myrtle's last name is Warren, which means that her full name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren. Later, when heated discussions began around this tweet, Rowling added that Myrtle's initials had nothing to do with current US Senator Elizabeth Warren. Also, that "Elizabeth" is just one of the classic British middle names.
7. She didn't tell anyone about her death for nearly 50 years
Myrtle didn't tell anyone about how she died. Only in the second year of studyAt Hogwarts, Harry managed to get this information out of her. It makes one wonder why she never told Principal Armando Dippet or Albus Dumbledore about this. But come to think of it, in Chamber of Secrets, she told Harry that she was confused that day because she was being bullied; how deeply upset she was at Olivia's bullying, and how frightened she was when she was killed by Tom Riddle and Basilisk. That's why she never told the Headmaster of Hogwarts and Albus Dumbledore about that day.
Myrtle was hiding in the closet because she was bullied by Olivia Hornby. She heard someone enter the toilet and start talking. She understood from the voice. that it was a boy, so she looked out of the stall to ask him to come out of the women's room. But looking out, she found herself face to face with the Basilisk. Many hours passed before someone found her body.
In conclusion
Crybaby Myrtle is a good ghost. She helped Harry and Draco in many ways, despite spending decades in the women's room (usually hiding in the toilet and filling the toilet space with her loud howls and moans), she got the name of the most pathetic ghost in Hogwarts.
