Lisa Arryn is a colorful character from the famous series Game of Thrones. Almost from the first minute of her appearance in this TV project, the hostess of the Valley and Robin's mother arouses only irritation and hatred in the audience. What can be said about the heroine and actress, who brilliantly embodied the difficult image of a slightly crazy lady?
Lisa Arren: backstory
The future Lady of the Valley was born in the Riverlands. This region, ruled by the Tully family, is part of Westeros, the fictional kingdom in which the lion's share of the events of the series takes place. Lysa Arryn is the daughter of Lord Hoster Tully and his wife Minisa. She lost her mother early, who died shortly after her birth. Lisa has a sister, Catelyn, and a brother, Edmure.
Hoster Tully's second daughter was still a child when her heart was stolen by Petyr Baelish, a boy from a poor family, whom the ruler of the Riverlands took in as a pupil. Unfortunately, Petyr did not pay any attention to the girl in love, as he gaveCatelyn's preference. No wonder Lisa Arryn has hated her older sister since childhood, blaming her for all her misfortunes.
First husband
The second daughter of the Lord of the Riverlands dreamed of becoming the wife of Petyr Baelish, but such a misalliance did not suit her father. Therefore, the girl was forced to marry a lord, an alliance with which her family needed. Jon Arryn is Lysa's first husband, their marriage took place during the rebellion of Robert Baratheon. The ruler of the Valley (one of the regions of Westeros) was one of the leaders of the uprising, the purpose of which was to overthrow King Aerys Targaryen, whose madness was no longer in doubt.
The rebels needed the support of Lord Hoster and his army. For the sake of concluding a military alliance, Lord John was forced to marry Lysa, while Eddard Stark married her older sister Catelyn. The victory in the bloody war was won by the army of Robert Baratheon, after which John became the Hand.
Lisa Arren was not happily married. The husband chosen by the father turned out to be about forty years older than his wife, and besides, he treated her coolly. Her only consolation was her son Robin, other children died in infancy. For 17 years, Lisa lived with her husband in King's Landing.
Death of Jon Arryn
This heroine played a fatal role in the events of the Game of Thrones series. Lysa Arryn agreed to become the wife of old John under pressure from her family, but she did not stop loving Petyr. It was she who, taking advantage of her husband's opportunities, helped Baelish to makea dizzying career in King's Landing, become a master of coin, managing the money of the crown.
It was Petyr Baelish who convinced the woman who became his secret mistress to poison Jon Arryn. After the death of her husband, Lisa fled to the Eagle's Nest, which is the Arryn family castle, taking her young son Robin. She began to rule the Valley as regent with a minor child, promoting a policy of isolationism.
Petyr forced Lisa not only to get rid of Lord John, but also to write a letter to her sister Catelyn, in which she blamed the Lannisters for everything - a rich and powerful family to which Queen Cersei (Robert Baratheon's wife) belongs. It was from this that the conflict between the Starks and Lannisters began, which had sad consequences.
First season
For the first time, Lisa Arryn is mentioned in the first episode of the television project "Game of Thrones". Catelyn receives a letter from her younger sister, in which she tells that her husband John was poisoned by the Lannisters, and she herself is forced to hide in the Valley and fear for the life of her little son. Upon learning this news, Eddard Stark decides to replace Arryn as the right hand of the king, as the latter insistently asks him to conduct his own investigation.
Catelyn Stark believes that Tyrion Lannister is responsible for the attempt on the life of one of her younger sons, which occurred during King Robert's visit to the Stark family castle. This idea was also inspired by Petyr Baelish, who is trying to inflate the conflict betweentwo powerful families. Having met Tyrion on the way to Winterfell, Catelyn takes the dwarf prisoner and brings him to her sister in the Valley. Lisa is furious when she learns of this act, but nevertheless declares that Lannister is now her prisoner. Only cunning helps Tyrion escape the Valley alive.
Katelyn is horrified at how weak and pampered Liza Arryn's son is growing up. She is also surprised by the changes that have taken place in her sister herself, who has turned into a hysterical, suspicious and evil lady. Lisa flatly refuses to help her sister when she learns of her husband's capture in King's Landing. The Lady of the Vale declares that her knights' task is to protect her son, not to participate in the battle between Starks and Lannisters.
Fourth season
The next time viewers meet this colorful heroine is already in the fourth season of the show. After the assassination of King Joffrey, Baelish helps Sansa Stark (Catelyn's youngest daughter) escape from King's Landing, where she is being held by force. He brings the girl to the Valley, where Lisa is already impatiently waiting for him. After that, Petyr marries the mistress of the Eagle's Nest, who is still in love with him.
Becoming the wife of Baelish, Lisa still does not believe in his love. She suspects that he has feelings for Sansa, who bears a strong resemblance to Catelyn in her youth. Her suspicions are reinforced when she catches him kissing her niece. Lisa threatens Sansa with death, but in the end she herself dies at the hands of her husband Petyr. As a result, power over the Valley passes into the hands of Baelish, since the underage lord does notcapable of ruling on his own.
The actress and her role
Not all viewers were satisfied with how Lisa Arryn looks in the series. The actress, who was approved for this role, outwardly looks like her complete opposite. In the book, she appears to be puffy and overweight, but in the TV series, she is thin and pale.
If you believe the actress who embodied this image, she is delighted with her role. Kate claims that she always liked to play the unfortunate, offended by the fate of heroines. She especially likes the way her character's storyline ends abruptly.
