The Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) will soon celebrate its centenary. His repertoire includes dramas, comedies, classical and contemporary plays, and fairy tales. The theater is very popular with residents and visitors of the city.
History of the theater
The Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk), the photo of the building of which is presented in this article, opened its doors in 1921. The first performance took place on December 9th. It was a drama written by Vl. Nemirovich-Danchenko "The Price of Life". There was no permanent troupe at that time. The sets and costumes were created and purchased with proceeds from ticket sales. From self-sufficiency to state funding, the drama theater (Chelyabinsk) was transferred in the 30s of the XX century. At the same time, a permanent troupe was formed.
In the 1950s, the active touring activity of the theater began. The artists took their productions to different cities of our vast Motherland. Everywhere performances were a great success.
In the 60s, the troupe replenished with young talents.
From 1973 to 2003, the theater was headed by Naum Yurievich Orlov. He greatly expanded his repertoire. Thanks to him, artists mastered new genres and forms. Naum Yurievich Orlovcreated a strong troupe capable of coping with any creative challenge.
The building in which the Chelyabinsk drama lives today was built specifically for it in 1982. The project was created by city architects. And 4 years later, in 1986, the theater was awarded the title of "Academic".
In the 90s. the troupe began to tour abroad and take an active part in festivals.
In 2003 the theater was named after Naum Orlov.
The year 2006 was an anniversary year for the Chelyabinsk drama. The anniversary of the foundation of the theater was celebrated brightly, festively and solemnly. In its anniversary year, the troupe presented its audience with five new productions.
And today the theater continues to expand its repertoire, is in search of new plays and interesting contemporary playwrights. He invites bright directors and artists to cooperate.
The doors of the theater are always open for spectators.

Naum Orlov
For thirty years the chief director and fifteen years - the artistic director of the theater was Naum Yuryevich Orlov. This is an outstanding person who has done a lot for the troupe. He came to the Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) in 1973 as the chief director. And in 1987 he became an artistic director. He served inChelyabinsk drama until his death. Over the years of work, Naum Yuryevich created and raised a highly professional troupe. His productions were distinguished by the highest level and impeccable taste. Naum Yurievich was an adherent of the traditions of classical Russian psychological theater. In the Chelyabinsk theater he created 45 productions. For numerous achievements, N. Orlov was awarded state awards.
